This position is part-time 35 hours a week working in the schools Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. This position works school schedule and is budgeted for 44 weeks with time off during the summers and school holidays. This position is eligible for full-time benefits such as health insurance, paid holidays, annual and sick leave and Florida Retirement System.


This position is in a school-based health clinic. Responsible for staffing the school based health clinic and the provision of associated clinical duties, such as nursing assessments, health appraisals, health screenings, identification of destructive lifestyle behaviors, dispensing OTC medications and daily medications to designated students, basic first aid to injured students and/or staff members. Supports other health staff and RN Supervisor. Includes referrals to other providers as needed. Evaluates student’s specific health care needs and coordinates care between school staff, parents/guardians, and physician to assure a healthy learning environment. Provides health education sessions in the classroom. Makes recommendations to staff and parents concerning health needs of individual students. Understands and works toward goals of the School Health Plan. Maintains up to date student health records by annual record review. Serves as a resource to school personnel in control of communicable diseases. Maintains and ensures student confidentiality at all times. Responds to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner. Prepares and submits all required reports and maintains all appropriate records. Responsible for maintaining all health records and activity records for statistical data information needed to complete School Health reports. Responsible for securing the designated information for the purpose of protecting confidentiality, data integrity and appropriate access for all information, both confidential and public record, which is stored in hard or electronic formats. Responsible to maintain a clean, stocked and functional health room.


Performs other work-related duties as requested by RN Supervisor/School Health Coordinator. Participates with in-service education that is pertinent to licensure and position. Participates in monthly staff meetings. May be required to float between health clinics prn.


Ability to work with school personnel, parents and students. Ability to use effective interview techniques, problem-solving skills and public relations skills. Ability to observe students for development and health patterns in making a nursing judgment and diagnosis. Ability to implement plans for students with chronic health problems and coordinate the administration of medication within state law and School Board policies. Ability to demonstrate effective skills listening, speaking and writing.


This position requires that the candidate be a Licensed Practical Nurse in Florida.  Maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.  Have nursing experience working with children and adolescents.  Have at least one year of recent nursing experience in an ambulatory setting. 



Preference will be given to those candidates who have basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and EHR. Those who are skilled in g-tube feeding and tracheotomy suctioning.
