Your Specific Responsibilities:

The Florida Department of Health is seeking an experienced and visionary public health leader to serve as the County Health Department Administrator/Director for Monroe County. This executive-level position provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for one of Florida’s 67 County Health Departments, ensuring the delivery of essential public health services and programs that protect and promote the health of all residents.

As the lead public health official in the county, you will:

• Direct and oversee a comprehensive portfolio of public health programs, including:
o Communicable Disease Control
o Environmental Public Health
o Community Health Initiatives
o Emergency Preparedness and Response
o Vital Statistics

• Manage resources effectively, including an annual operating budget of approximately $9.2 and a dedicated team of 61 full-time staff.

• Provide strategic direction to senior leadership and managers to ensure alignment with state and county objectives.

• Advise County Administration, elected officials, and community partners on public health policies, emerging issues, and program development.

• Foster partnerships with government agencies, private organizations, community stakeholders, and staff to strengthen public health infrastructure and outcomes.

• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations while promoting innovation and continuous improvement in service delivery.

The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County, located in Key West, provides services to individuals and families of all ages. Our programs aim to:

Qualifications:

A preferred Director candidate is a physician that currently holds, or is eligible for, a Florida medical license (Chapters 458 or 459, Florida Statutes) and five years of administrative or management experience in public health, two of which must be supervisory.

The salary range for a Director candidate is $170,000 to $200,000 annually.

A preferred Administrator candidate has a
• Master's degree in behavioral or social science, business administration, health administration, nursing, public administration, public health, or related field and five years of administrative or management experience in public health, two of which must be supervisory OR
• Bachelor's degree in one of the above fields and seven years of administrative or management experience in public health, two of which must be supervisory.
The salary range for an Administrator candidate is $127,000 to $145,000 annually.
