Your Specific Responsibilities:

 

This is an advanced and specialized nursing medical work, requiring focus on the specialty areas of HIV/AIDS, Chronic infectious hepatitis, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), Refugees Health, Family Planning, Women’s Health, Active and Latent Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections as well as Primary Care. The APRN will perform certain medical acts and procedures within protocols established mutually with the Medical Director.

Collects, interprets and records health data from patients presenting in the HIV/AIDS, Chronic hepatitis infections, STIs, Family Planning, Women’s Health, TB and Refugees Health Clinics, including breast and pelvic exams, placement and removal of intra uterine devices (IUDs), provision of all forms of contraception methods within the boundaries of the State of Florida mandates. Performs annual physical exams for uninsured patients and comprehensive physical evaluations of refugees. Identifies and evaluates medical conditions and illnesses. Initiates diagnostic laboratory tests and evaluates all results in a timely manner. Advanced knowledge of nursing practice, familiarity with Title X guidelines.

Participates in all screening and immunizations campaigns and all community outreach projects as deemed necessary by the Nursing and Medical Directors and provides immunizations.

Within protocols established mutually with the Medical Director, initiates appropriate therapies consistent with the diagnosis.

Makes scheduled visits, as needed, to patients’ homes for Direct Observed Treatments (DOT) and to our satellite clinics.

Oversees the work of all personnel assigned to assist her.

Utilizes expertise to educate the patients, their families, staff and community. Participates in staff development, programs and orientation. Visits county schools and other community centers for provision of services and/or for education purposes, as needed.

Assumes additional responsibilities and performs other duties as may be assigned by the Medical Director or Nursing Director based on circumstances due to clinical or staffing needs.

Assumes responsibilities for maintaining current State of Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license and engages regularly in professional growth courses and conferences. Participates in nursing, medical and other conference and performs related duties as required.

Participates actively in all Quality Improvement projects and other Committees as deemed necessary by the Medical Director.

Information custodian responsibilities include maintaining information in accordance with state and federal statutes, rules regulations, and Department of Health Security Policy 3 and associated Protocols and Procedures as it relates to Information Custodian, Delegation of Authority. This responsibility is to be adhered to 100% of the time.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Requires good written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of evaluation methods and practices. Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision. Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. Ability to provide direct patient care and treatment. Being fluent in Spanish and/or in Creole and have basic computer skills and ability to use an electronic medical record are all required.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum -

  • Licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Florida.
  • Willing to perform emergency duty during disasters before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days.

 

Preferred -

  • At least one to two (1-2) years of medical experience working in an outpatient/hospital setting or Women’s Health Clinic.
  • Experience documenting and retrieving clinical information in an electronic medical records (EMR) system.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in Quality Improvement Initiative/Programs.
  • Experience working for the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) or other public health setting.
  • Bilingual in English + Spanish OR English + Creole and fluently speak, read, and write these languages.
