MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A high school diploma or its equivalent and one (1) year of experience in laboratory work; or
College or vocational/technical training can substitute at the rate of 30 semester (1 year), 45 quarter (1 year) or
720 classroom hours (1 year) for the required experience provided such education includes three (3) courses in the physical and/or natural sciences.
Certain positions within this class require individuals to meet specific federal or state regulations as identified by the employing agency.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent must pass a pulmonary function test with medical evaluation, must undergo and pass regular respirator fit testing, and must wear a respirator when required. Will be subject to the requirements of the proper use of appropriate respirator.
The incumbent must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
Occasional travel required.
Some alternate work hours required to accomplish duties and responsibilities. The incumbent may be required to work split shift on Saturdays to provide coverage for sample acceptance.

JOB DUTIES:
Serves as the primary point of contact for all customers, greeting and assisting them professionally. Helps clients to complete required submission forms and addresses all general questions related to the laboratory and direct the questions to the appropriate sections if needed. Handles a multiline phone system, logs and routes calls and voicemails, and provides general information about the laboratory, testing costs, submission requirements, and shipping procedures.
Processes all incoming mail, prints/scans/emails/mails bulk reports, and monitors the diaglab@FDACS.gov inbox throughout the day. Processes Health Certificate (OCVI) order forms, notify the veterinarians when corrections are needed. Confirms outgoing Coggins test results (hard copies) are properly signed, stamped, and uploaded into LIMS (VetView). Uploads reports received from reference laboratories.
Monitors supplies for the Shipping/Receiving Section and assists in screening all mail for suspicious items prior to distribution.
Supports laboratory marketing events as needed.
Assists with receiving, documenting, organizing, and processing all samples submitted to the laboratory, including opening packages, verifying contents, matching samples to submission forms, labeling, sorting by section, and preparing them for distribution or pickup. Enters client and sample information into LIMS (VetView), scans and attaches submission forms, and verifies accuracy of all associated documentation, including chain of custody records.
Communicates with clients regarding questions about sample condition, handling, or shipping procedures, and notifies senders when specimens arrive damaged or have any discrepancies. Ensures compliance with Shipping/Receiving SOPs, QA/QC requirements, and all state, federal, and HAZMAT regulations related to packaging and shipping, including preparing records and documentation for samples sent to reference laboratories.
Maintains organization and cleanliness of the Shipping/Receiving section and manages files, forms, SOPs, logs, and documentation required for reference lab submissions. Assists supervisor with laboratory data analysis as needed.
When needed, aids to deliver animal carcasses to the necropsy section/cooler in the absence or unavailability of the Necropsy Section staff.
Provides quality control to ensure accurate equipment performance and proper maintenance with Quality Assurance and Biosafety coordinator. Applies and enhances existing procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
