Your Specific Responsibilities:

As a Senior Public Health Nutritionist you will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Interviewing WIC clients to perform nutritional assessment screening for medical high risk, high risk and low risk clients.
  • Analyzing medical and anthropometrical data to determine nutritional risk eligibility.
  • Developing client nutritional care plans and at least one client centered goal for each contact.
  • Prescribing food packages documented in the medical record.
  • Monitoring accuracy of growth grids by lab clinic staff.
  • Referring clients and families as needed to other health and social service agencies.
  • Assessing, educating, and promoting positive breastfeeding practices to WIC participants and referring clients to Peer Counselors, CLC and IBCLC, as needed in accordance to WIC State standards.
  • Participating in health fairs and WIC outreach activities with community-based organizations in Osceola County aimed at increasing clinic caseload. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the science and current practice of nutrition or dietetics.
  • Knowledge of the concepts and theories of nutrition or dietetics as it related to growth, development, health, or disease.
  • Knowledge of nutritional and dietary assessment techniques.
  • Judgment and decision making; writing/communicating; documenting/recording information; customer service.
  • Ability to provide counseling and/or referral services to promote health and normal nutrition.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum - 

  • A licensed dietitian/nutritionist with the State of Florida or a Registered Dietitian with Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Willing to rotate within different sites and work extended hours if needed when covering for staff on leave
  • Willing to perform emergency duty during disasters before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days

 

Preferred -

  • Experience working in Public Health/ Community Nutrition/WIC experience
  • Master’s Degree in Dietetics, Public Health, or related field
  • Knowledge in the principles of breastfeeding and/or skills in breastfeeding counseling
