Duties and Responsibilities
As a Research and Training Specialist, this position serves as a subject matter expert, trainer, and content developer. This position is responsible for course development and facilitation of in- person and virtual instructor- led training on topics such as leadership development, power skills (communication, collaboration and teamwork, emotional intelligence, adaptability, problem solving, etc. ) and customer service to frontline members, supervisors, and senior leaders. The incumbent will use industry standard instructional design best practices and adult learning theories for designing and implementing performance solutions to incorporate interactive elements such as videos, images, job aids, real- life scenarios, and exams that will enhance knowledge transfer and overall learning experience. The incumbent will serve on project teams, conducting need assessments when necessary, evaluating current training curricula, revising existing programs, and developing new training programs. To effectively manage assigned training projects, the incumbent will need to utilize various project management documents. Administrative duties and coordination, such as coordinating training schedules, organizing travel plans, tracking cost and vehicle logs, and maintaining training records in iLearn, the department’s Learning Management System, is also required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of leadership theories and best practices.
- Knowledge of principles, methods, techniques and current trends for adult learning and instructional design best practices for instructor- led and online training.
- Knowledge and skill in written and oral communication including public speaking and engaging presentation techniques.
- Skill in providing customer service to internal and external customers to include communicating professionally to accomplish work- related tasks and provide requested services timely and accurately.
- Skill in utilizing Microsoft Office applications ( Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) to create and edit documents and use presentation graphics databases or spreadsheets to collect information.
- Skill in conducting research and evaluating information to analyze training data, prepare reports, identify solutions to problems, etc.
- Ability to maintain organized files and documents, to include the management of travel plans.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects, prioritize work assignments, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision at times.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
- A bachelor’ s degree from an accredited college or university.
- At least two years of adult training facilitation experience teaching or training students and/ or adults.
- Experience developing curriculum and/ or training materials.
- Experience using presentation software (e. g. , PowerPoint).
Job Related Requirements
- This position requires travel throughout the State is an essential part of this position and is estimated at 10- 30% of your time, which may occur on the weekends and up to one week at a time.
- Must have Florida Drivers License Information System (FDLIS), Online Registartion and Identity Operating Network (ORION) and/or Florida Realtime Vehicle Information System (FRVIS) issuance experience.
- This position requires the incumbent to have and maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing. This means there can be no cancellations, suspensions, or revocations for a minimum of three years prior to employment and for the duration of employment. There can be no more than three chargeable crashes or any violation of Chapter 316, Florida Statutes, during any consecutive three-year period prior to and throughout employment.

- FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
