Your Specific Responsibilities:
The incumbent in this position shall be responsible for multiple environmental health programs in Hendry and Glades Counties. This position requires vast technical knowledge within all environmental health programs. The incumbent must have the ability to exercise discretion and make independent professional judgments within all environmental health programs. Primary
responsibilities include food hygiene coordinator, monitoring and conducting routine inspections of migrant labor housing facilities, biomedical waste facilities, food hygiene facilities, mobile home and recreational vehicle parks, public and private schools, public swimming pools, tattooing facilities, and tanning facilities, investigating complaints and preparing reports, legal notices and other documents. Other responsibilities include monitoring, permitting, coordinating and conducting water well construction inspections. Position functions independently and under the direction of the Environmental Manager. This position is headquartered at the Florida Department of Health in Hendry County, Division of Environmental Health, and reports directly to the Environmental Supervisor. The incumbent in this position is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36, Florida Administrative Code.
Reviews and recommends action on license applications for migrant labor housing facilities. Perform routine compliance inspections on migrant labor housing facilities according to Chapter 64E-14. Completes inspection forms accurately and completely. Submit copy of inspection to owner/management company either in person, by email, or regular USPS mail. Submit inspection report to supervisor for review. Inform owner and/or management company of violations noted during inspection. Perform re-inspections as needed, following stated time frame. Implement rules of Chapter 64E-14 to bring each facility into compliance. Keep supervisor informed of all progress.
Reviews and recommends action on license applications for food hygiene facilities. Perform routine compliance inspections on food hygiene facilities according to Chapter 64E-11 and Florida Statutes 381.0072. Completes inspection forms accurately and completely. Submit copy of inspection to owner/management company either in person, by email, or regular USPS mail. Submit inspection report to supervisor for review. Inform owner and/or management company of violations noted during inspection. Perform re-inspections as needed, following stated time frame. Implement rules of Chapter 64E-11 and Florida Statutes 381.0072 to bring each facility into compliance. Keep supervisor informed of all progress.
Reviews and recommends action on license applications for biomedical waste facilities. Perform routine compliance inspections on biomedical waste facilities according to Chapter 64E-16 and Florida Statutes 381.0098. Completes inspection forms accurately and completely. Submit copy of inspection to owner/management company either in person, by email, or regular USPS mail. Submit inspection report to supervisor for review. Inform owner and/or management company of violations noted during inspection. Perform re-inspections as needed, following stated time frame. Implement rules of Chapter 64E-16 and Florida Statutes 381.0098 to bring each facility into compliance. Keep supervisor informed of all progress.
Reviews and recommends action on license applications for mobile home, lodging, recreational vehicle parks, and recreational camps. Perform routine compliance inspections on mobile home, lodging, recreational vehicle parks, and recreational camps according to Chapter 64E-15 and Florida Statutes 513. Completes inspection forms accurately and completely. Submit copy of inspection to owner/management company either in person, by email, or regular USPS mail. Submit inspection report to supervisor for review. Inform owner and/or management company of violations noted during inspection. Perform re-inspections as needed, following stated time frame. Implement rules of Chapter 64E-15 and Florida Statutes 513 to bring each facility into compliance. Keep supervisor informed of all progress.
Reviews and recommends action on license applications for public swimming pools. Perform routine compliance inspections on public swimming pools according to Chapter 64E-9 and Florida Statutes 514. Completes inspection forms accurately and completely. Submit copy of inspection to owner/management company either in person, by email, or regular USPS mail. Submit inspection report to supervisor for review. Inform owner and/or management company of violations noted during inspection. Perform re-inspections as needed, following stated time frame. Implement rules of Chapter 64E-9 and Florida Statutes 514 to bring each facility into compliance. Keep supervisor informed of all progress.
Perform routine compliance inspections on public and private school facilities according to Chapter 64E-13 and Florida Statutes 381.006. Completes inspection forms accurately and completely. Submit copy of inspection to owner/management company either in person, by email, or regular USPS mail. Submit inspection report to supervisor for review. Inform owner and/or management company of violations noted during inspection. Perform re-inspections as needed, following stated time frame. Implement rules of Chapter 64E-13 and Florida Statutes 381.006 to bring each facility into compliance. Keep supervisor informed of all progress.
Perform inspections and nuisance complaint investigations, and initiate compliance and enforcement actions when appropriate for assigned facilities and locations regulated under Community Environmental Health or other Environmental Health programs as assigned. Routine inspections performed to assure compliance with the Florida Statutes and Florida Administrative Codes and interagency agreements.
Reviews and recommends action on license applications for tanning facilities. Perform routine compliance inspections on tanning facilities according to Chapter 64E-17 and Florida Statutes 381.89. Completes inspection forms accurately and completely. Submit copy of inspection to owner/management company either in person, by email, or regular USPS mail. Submit inspection report to supervisor for review. Inform owner and/or management company of violations noted during inspection. Perform re-inspections as needed, following stated time frame. Implement rules of Chapter 64E-17 and Florida Statutes 381.89 to bring each facility into compliance. Keep supervisor informed of all progress.
Reviews and recommends action on license applications for tattoo artists and tattoo establishments. Perform routine compliance inspections on tattoo artists and tattoo establishments according to Chapter 64E-28. Completes inspection forms accurately and completely. Submit copy of inspection to owner/management company either in person, by email, or regular USPS mail. Submit inspection report to supervisor for review. Inform owner and/or management company of violations noted during inspection. Perform re-inspections as needed, following stated time frame. Implement rules of Chapter 64E-28 to bring each facility into compliance. Keep supervisor informed of all progress.
Conduct required maintenance on equipment and assigned vehicle, as needed. Participate in in-service training programs as required and within time specified. Remain aware of Security Policy protocols. Perform as assigned ant other duties within the scope of environmental health as directed by the supervisor. Enter Daily Activity Records on daily basis.
This position may be required to present expert witness testimony and represent the Department in legal proceedings involving noncompliant persons of facilities within Hendry and Glades Counties.

- Incumbent will be assigned a county vehicle and will be responsible for maintain and operating the vehicle per state and county regulations.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills, the Environmental Health Database and Environmental Health Database Mobile Application.
- Knowledge of field equipment required, included but not limited to, digital camera, and other equipment as deemed necessary to perform facility inspections.
- Knowledge of environmental principles, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage.
- Skill in using basic water testing equipment and procedures.
- Skill in using GPS unit.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- A valid Florida driver's license, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire
- Emergency duty required of the incumbent of this position includes working in Special Needs or Red Cross Shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural
- Reliable transportation
- A bachelor’s degree from an U.S. accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 credit hours in a related science field (Environmental Health, Environmental Science or a Physical or Biological Science)
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Able to move freely around construction sites and undeveloped property in high heat and humid conditions
- Work in rural Hendry and Glades Counties, Florida
- A minimum of one year of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher
- Able to obtain a food hygiene coordinator certification within twelve months of hire
