Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a home visiting position working with families, according to standards set by Healthy Families Florida.

This position is responsible for initiating and maintaining regular and long-term contact/support with families served through the Healthy Families Hendry/Glades Program. Provides intensive, home-based services that are family centered, strength-based, and directed at establishing trusting relationships.

The Family Support Specialist is responsible for conducting regular home visits using a specific curriculum; reviewing and providing tools and education on parenting, child development and child and home safety; completing child developmental and various parent screens; modeling and facilitating positive parent-child interactions using curriculum; helping families set and achieve goals; assessing safety in the home environment; improving the family support system, and increasing the parent's ability to problem solve and assume the role of advocate for themselves and their children, in accordance with program guidelines.

Planning, preparing for, and scheduling home visits; client and collateral contacts.

Linking families to community resources and building relationships with the family, peers, and the community; maintaining a working knowledge of and positive relationship with community resources.

Completes proper and timely documentation, data collection, and data entry related to family services, per program guidelines.

Attends orientation, basic trainig, intense pre-service training and ongoing in-service training; participates in required weekly supervision; attends team meetings; and participates in outreach/community events to promote the program and agency.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

The ability to work with children and families in their home environment, work independently and stay on task, organize/coordinate work assignments, open and check emails daily, use Microsoft office computer programs and online data systems, actively listen and effectively communicate, work with culturally diverse families, establish and maintain professional relationships, maintainprofessional boundaries, accept individual differences, adapt to change, travel throughout Hendry and Glades Counties, and maintain a flexible schedule to meet the needs of participants served.


Knowledge of infant and child development.

Willingness to participate in reflective practice. 

Fluency in English/Spanish.

Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED plus one year of experience working with children or families in a social service, health/medical, nursing, child development, or childcare setting.

A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.  

Willing to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent of this position includes working in Special Needs or Red Cross Shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural
