Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a part time OPS Dental Assistant position that will provide direct patient care services and support for the dental program/providers AND administrative support to the Program Director. Position reports directly to the Human Services Program Director - SES and is headquartered in LaBelle. Certain immunizations and TB testing may be required.

Dental Assisting:

  • Under the supervision of the Dentist, will perform expanded duty dental functions in accordance with all relevant Federal, State and professional standards.  The duties extend to accurate dental charting and treatment plan interpretation in a timely manner utilizing the appropriate forms and documentation standards.
  • Performs specialized assisting techniques to Dentist and/or Dental Hygienist.
  • Maintains dental records and coordinates patient dental treatment which requires independent decision-making. 
  • Efficiently perform four-handed dentistry in the delivery of dental care including dental prophylaxis and hygiene, material preparation and presentation of appropriate dental instruments. 
  • The employee must maintain current work knowledge and skills based on the Department of Health programs and policies. 
  • This position is classified as a sensitive position.  Incumbent handles protected health information on a need to know basis following Department of Health Information Security and Privacy Policy and procedures. 
  • Employee abides by State/Federal laws governing health information.  Employee is responsible to maintain confidentiality, security, privacy and integrity of protected health information. 
  • This position has access to the following information sets: medical/dental records. 
  • Refers to and utilizes DOH 50-10-05 Information Security and Privacy Policy as needed.
  • Be proficient in the use of dental computer software.  Must enter documentation in Dentrix, Dexis, and State of Florida HMS program. 
  • Must be able to discuss present treatment and future dental treatment with the patient.
  • Responsible for making appointments while maintaining a workable daily schedule.
  • Assure all documentation is present in chart, to include but not limited to updated health history, HIPPA forms, registration forms etc.
  • Appropriately interact with patients and guardians to include greeting, seating, educating and discussion of treatment plan.
  • Researches items to be purchased, prepares purchase requisitions, and orders items from state approved vendors via My Florida Market Place (MFMP) and/or other approved vendors.
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining inventory and supplies
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and work with other sealant staff and supervisor to address opportunities

 

Administrative Support:

 

  • Responsible for assisting the Program Director with general administrative support.
  • Performs special assignments, research, and report preparation.
  • Assists in conducting daily administrative activities, special projects, and activities.
  • Assists with the accurate and timely preparation and submission of monthly/annual reports and invoices.
  • Provides programmatic, fiscal, and performance reports as needed.
  • Researches items to be purchased, prepares purchase requisitions, and orders items from state approved vendors via My Florida Market Place (MFMP) and/or other approved vendors.
  • Records minutes in staff meetings.
  • Assists with quality assurance activities, including file reviews for data to file accuracy.
  • Prepares and mails correspondence.
  • Answers phones and transfers calls accordingly.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of dental terminology
  • Ability to use dental equipment required for the job
  • Certified in the State of Florida as a Dental Radiographer
  • Knowledge and experience in working with children and adults.
  • Ability to work with diverse population
  • Knowledge of sterilization procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to interact professionally with other DOH staff and the public and provide excellent customer service 
  • Ability to accurately document patient records.
  • Knowledge of data entry and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments independently
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures

Qualifications:

Minimum:

Must possess a FL Board of Dentistry certificate in radiology and expanded duties as outlined in the FL Dental Practice Act.

Must be able to lift 20 lbs. 

Must be willing to work with HIV+ Patients.

Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours in the event of a disaster or as needed. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat thereof, man-made or natural.
