Utilities Supervisor

This open competitive advertisement is for a Select Exempt position located at Reception & Medical Center (RMC) in the Maintenance Department.

The mission of Facilities Management and Building Construction at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide a safe, secure, and efficient environment for staff, inmates, and visitors. This is achieved through the effective management, maintenance, and construction of correctional facilities, ensuring they meet all regulatory standards and support the department's overall mission of public safety and rehabilitation.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

 

JOB DUTIES:

This position is responsible for the direction and supervision of all phases of the Utilities Department. This position will be responsible for the daily operations of all institutional boiler rooms are inspected and checked for proper operation a minimum of once per 8-hour shift, 7 days per week, 24-hour time span. 

  • Secures all replacement parts and materials for smooth daily operation of boiler rooms and powerhouses, managing multiple boilers and emergency generators. 
  • Plans and supervises preventative maintenance and repairs for power plant equipment. 
  • Inspects and oversees the operation of the power plant and related machinery. 
  • Assigns personnel to work schedules, manages leave schedules, and maintains timesheets. 
  • Trains and counsels both staff and inmates assigned to the power plant, while maintaining inventory control of all tools.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Five (5) years of commercial/industrial experience in one or more of the following trades: Electronics, Electrical, Plumbing, or HVAC.
  • A Valid Class E Driver’s License

 

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience with generators and electrical controls
  • Experience working with Boilers
