MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

One (1) year of aluminum and/or steel welding or mechanical installation experience.

 

Vocational/technical training in welding can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for the required experience provided such training includes MIG welding, Arc welding or TIG welding.

 

Requires possession of a valid driver license.

JOB DUTIES:

 

Cut, fit, and weld a variety of materials, such as steel, aluminum, stainless steel and more as part of the fabrication process, manufacturing a variety of forestry specific items of equipment, some of which are:  aluminum tool boxes, water tanks, truck beds and skid mounted pump units.  Items fabricated from steel include:  harrows, plows, truck beds, tool boxes, dozer blades, etc.  All of the fabrication mentioned requires the welder to weld horizontally, vertically and overhead with the same quality of welds.  Welding processes include metal inert gas (mig), tungsten inert gas (tig), shielded metal arc welding (stick), and occasionally oxygen/acetylene equipment.

 

Use various metal cutting and shaping devices such as oxygen/acetylene torch, plasma cutter, band saws, drill presses, hydraulic shears and others to make repairs to plows, truck bodies, water tanks tool boxes and other forestry related items.

 

Analyze repair and fabrication work to determine the materials to use and the most efficient methods to reduce wasted labor and materials.  Read and analyze engineering and fabrication drawings and sketches.  Load and unload raw materials with material handling equipment.

 

Maintain all assigned welding equipment.  Responsible for the accountability of all assigned tools and any common use tools as they are being used.  Assist shop supervisor in the accountability of shop warehouse items.

 

Attend all designated training and helps to train less experienced personnel.  Seek additional training and stay abreast of changes in the industry.

 

Complete work orders of repaired and new fabricated equipment and accurately account for all materials used in the fabrication process.
