Your Specific Responsibilities:
Supervises employees by communicating, motivating, and training, evaluating, planning, and directing work of employees. Manages and supervises the Structures Maintenance Engineering group (in-house design, consultant project management, load rating, work program for structure repairs and replacement). Motivates, provides training, provides direction, establishes goals and meets regularly with staff. Assists Structures Maintenance Engineer with assigned duties and responsibilities. Coordinates with Local government and other agencies as needed.
Manages all repair designs for structures. Manages consultant selection, evaluation and coordination on repair projects. Coordinates scope development including field review, task assignment, negotiations and contract management.
Manages the Work Program. Programs, tracks and assures all deadlines are met on projects in the Work Program. Coordinates with State and District Work Program Offices. Oversees the development of the Bridge Work Plan (BWP), programs repair and replacement projects.
Act as the professional engineer in responsible charge on selected projects. This requires incumbent to sign and seal documents as needed. Oversees Asset Maintenance projects. Assures scope compliance and invoice accuracy.
Supervises the staff in the load rating of all bridges. Assures all bridges have an accurate and complete load rating. Supervises staff in the maintenance of structure databases and filing systems.
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of team concepts and principles.
- Knowledge of bridge design and construction.
- Knowledge of contract administration and funds management.
- Knowledge of engineering principles and practice.
- Knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) safety rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of FDOT/Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) bridge inspection regulations.
Skills in:
- Skilled in supervising and managing people in a tactful and courteous manner.
- Skilled in public speaking, written and verbal communication, and active listening.
- Skilled in dealing with the public, consultants, government officials and regulatory agencies to maintain an effective working relationship.
- Skilled in using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments.
- Skilled in effectively interpreting department rules and procedures as it relates to the management of the bridge inspection, bridge repair and maintenance program.
- Skilled in motivating self and others.
Ability to:
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments of subordinates and ensure proper completion of work assignment.
- Ability to develop work program for repairs and replacement of bridge and other structures.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and stressful situations.
- Ability to work outdoors (standing, walking and bending) in a variety of weather conditions, on various terrains and at various heights.
Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Chapter 471, F.S.
Other Job-Related Requirements:
- To be in compliance with the District Two Loss Prevention Procedure and be aware of reducing personal injury and vehicular accidents.
- The incumbent of this position will at times be required to work during weekends, nights, or holidays due to emergency conditions.
