MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing or electrical or mechanical equipment; or

 

Vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

 

Requires possession of a valid class E driver license

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Occasional to moderate travel required.

 

Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

 

JOB DUTIES: 

 

Installs wiring, lights and hydraulic components on new equipment for the fabrication shop. This includes setting up and plumbing for wildland engines and transports.

 

Removes and replaces wiring, electrical items such as lights, radios, light bars, etc., in the preparatory stage of vehicle painting. 

 

Performs repairs on all types of equipment assigned to the Florida Forest Service.  This can include complete engine, transmission and other drive components, overhaul as required.  Repairs both gasoline and diesel powered equipment systems, such as cooling systems, fuel injection systems, carburetors, on crawler tractors, light, medium and heavy duty trucks, as well as other automotive and off-road type vehicles.  Repairs power train, transmissions, clutches, brakes and suspension systems of all types of vehicles mentioned above.

 

Uses specialized tools and diagnostic equipment to diagnose drivability and performance problems of equipment assigned to the district.  This includes but it not limited to welders, cutting torches and various other metal cutting and shaping equipment in the repair of both steel and aluminum components.

 

Assists with the preparation of surfaces for the application of undercoating, primers, finish and paints to industry standards.

 

Assists with applying different striping and decal patterns as required by changes.  Applies a wide range of vinyl striping material in several different sizes to automobiles, light, medium, and heavy trucks, vans, sport utility vehicles, and any others as appropriate.  Applies crew numbers, forestry decals, equipment numbers, etc., to all equipment purchased by the FFS.

 

Accurately prepares work orders for all work performed, follows up to completion, for an accurate account of all parts, labor and materials used.  Initiates, prepares and completes field purchase orders or p-card purchases for parts and supplies.  Assists the supervisor ensuring all work performed by operators and others, has an accurate work order prepared before completion.

 

Responsible for the accountability of all tools, test equipment and parts used in the daily performance of duties.  Responsibilities extend to include helping the supervisor account for tools, parts and supplies used by operators and others as much as possible.

 

Performs other related work as assigned.
