MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Six months of experience in painting automotive or heavy equipment; or

Vocational/technical training in painting can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of the required experience.

Requires possession of a valid class E driver license.

NOTES:

JOB DUTIES: 

Repairs dents, rusted, bent, and broken surfaces of steel, fiberglass, aluminum and varied plastics used in the manufacture of automobiles and heavy equipment.  Prepares these surfaces for the application of undercoating, primers, finish and paints to industry standards.

Applies industry approved undercoatings, primers, and paints to a wide variety of equipment fabricated by the Fabrication shop.  Prepares paints and repaints a wide variety of equipment purchased by the Florida Forest Service (FFS) for use in Forestry fire fighting and Land Management.  This includes, but is not limited to: using both airless and pneumatic spray paint equipment to apply the surface coatings listed to automobiles, heavy and light trucks, crawler tractors, fire line plows, harrows, material handling equipment, shop equipment and many other types of military equipment purchased, either acquired through the Federal Firefighting Program (FFP) or fabricated in the shop.

Designs, evaluates, and applies different striping and decal patterns as required by changes.  Applies a wide range of vinyl striping material in several different sizes to automobiles, light, medium, and heavy trucks, vans, sport utility vehicles, and any others as appropriate.  Applies crew numbers, forestry decals, equipment numbers, etc., to all equipment purchased by the FFS.

Removes and replaces wiring, electrical items such as lights, radios, light bars, etc., in the preparatory stage of vehicle painting.  Removes and replaces hydraulic pumps, cylinders, valves, and hoses, as required, to prepare equipment for painting and return the equipment to usable status.  Removes and replaces bumpers, winches, grills, etc., as required for a thorough professional paint job.  Installs wiring, lights and hydraulic components as overflow support for the fabrication shop.

Researches and tests new paints, primers, undercoatings, preparation techniques, and applications as they become available.  Provides expert input and recommendations to supervisory personnel as to feasibility of such new items and features for our applications.

Completes all FFS training requirements. 

Performs other duties as assigned.
