Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a professional nursing position responsible for delivering public health services across multiple program areas including School Health, Family Planning (FP), Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), Immunizations, Ryan White (RW), Tuberculosis (TB), and the Florida Breast and Cervical Early Detection Program (FBCCEDP). The nurse provides direct client care, health education, and case management in accordance with Florida Department of Health (FDOH) protocols and public health nursing standards.
Duties and responsibilities for this position include administering age-appropriate vaccines to children and adults, conducting immunization outreach and education in community settings, and maintaining accurate vaccine inventory and documentation in Florida SHOTS. Perform health screenings (vision, hearing), collaborating with school staff to promote a healthy school environment, and conducting audits to ensure adherence. Conduct STI screenings, treatment, education and follow-up per CDC guidelines. Provide contraceptive counseling and FP services, and educate clients on reproductive health, safe sex practices, and risk reduction. Administer TB tests and interpret results. Provide nursing support for clients living with HIV/AIDS and assist with medication adherence, lab monitoring, and referrals to supportive services and ensure continuity of care. Educate clients on cancer prevention and early detection and coordinate mammography and pap testing.
Assists in maintenance of clinical areas including prepping exam rooms, maintaining stock, cleaning rooms, inventory, ordering medications, and ordering vaccines.
Attends staff meetings, in-services, and trainings.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of public health nursing principles and program-specific protocols. Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care. Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills. Cultural competence and ability to work with diverse populations. Proficiency in electronic health records and Microsoft Office.
Qualifications:
This occupation requires licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes and in accordance with Rule 6489, Florida Administrative Code. Required to maintain a current Basic Life Support CPR With AED (BLS) certification. Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver License. Successful completion of a drug test is a condition of employment.
