POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR DESKTOP SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

STATE ATTORNEY’S OFFICE, THIRD JUDICIAL CIRCUIT, FLORIDA

 

POSITION TITLE: IT SPECIALIST I

EFFECTIVE DATE: 8/20/2026

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

 

  • Provide desktop support for office employees, including setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Windows 11 computers, software, monitors, printers, scanners, and other common office technology.
  • Respond to support requests in person, by telephone, and through approved remote-support tools.
  • Listen carefully, confirm a clear understanding of the user’s problem, and explain solutions in clear, practical terms.
  • Install, configure, and support Windows 11 computers and Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Troubleshoot common desktop hardware, software, login, connectivity, and workstation-performance problems.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot local and network printers, scanners, print drivers, queues, connectivity, and print-quality issues.
  • Use approved software to monitor workstations, assist with approved application rollouts, review patch status, and support Windows and third-party application updates.
  • Document reported issues, troubleshooting performed, resolutions, and any necessary follow-up.
  • Perform basic video editing and multimedia work, including trimming footage, adjusting audio, adding titles or captions, converting and compressing files, and exporting videos for web or presentation use.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • This position works under the general supervision of the IT Director.

 

OTHER JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS: Valid driver license and operational private vehicle for use in the performance of work activities. Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required. Must be able to navigate confined work areas involving kneeling, bending, stooping, and reaching, and lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

 

PREFERENCES: Previous desktop support, printer support, customer service, or video editing experience. Familiarity with Microsoft 365, NinjaOne or another endpoint-management platform, mobile devices, audiovisual equipment, or common video-editing applications. CompTIA A+ or comparable training is helpful but not required.

  • Basic working knowledge of Windows 11 and Microsoft 365 applications
  • Ability to logically troubleshoot common desktop hardware, software, printer, and peripheral issues
  • Ability to set up and configure desktop computers, monitors, printers, scanners, and related equipment
  • Basic understanding of wired and wireless network connectivity
  • Excellent communication, time-management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple requests and prioritize work based on urgency, impact, security risk, and deadlines
  • Patience, compassion, professionalism, and a friendly attitude when assisting users
  • Ability to provide support by telephone, remotely, and in person
  • Ability to accept direction and feedback, learn unfamiliar systems, and recognize when an issue should be escalated
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent and basic working knowledge of Windows 11, desktop hardware, Microsoft 365, printers, scanners, and routine network connectivity. Professional IT experience and certifications are not required. Classroom, volunteer, personal, or other hands-on technical experience will be considered.

 

COMPENSATION: IT Specialist I is compensated at an annual rate of $34,000.00. The full package of State benefits accompanies this position, including State of Florida retirement, insurance options, paid holidays, and leave.
