STARTING SALARY:  $2,003.61 biweekly.  (In accordance with current spending restrictions, an internal promotion into the position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee’s current rate, whichever is higher.)

DESCRIPTION: 

This position is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of statewide training initiatives which support the operational effectiveness, safety, security, and quality of services provided within the twenty-one detention centers. Serves as a subject matter expert and resource to facility leadership and staff by providing technical assistance, operational guidance, and training designed to enhance facility performance and promote positive youth development.

Conducts comprehensive needs assessments to identify operational gaps, training opportunities, and areas for continuous improvement.

Conduct monthly site visits to the detention centers to evaluate daily operations, assess compliance with established policies and procedures, observe facility practicies, and identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness. Review facility operations to ensure alignment with departmental standards, best practices, and facility operating procedures. 

Complete and maintain quarterly Detention Services Report Cards through comprehensive site visit assessments, operational reviews, and documentation maintained within SharePoint. Evaluate facility performance, identifies strengths and areas requiring improvement, and provides recommendations to enhance operational compliance and service delivery. 

Provide continuous learning and technical assistance to facility leadership and staff. Delivers specialized training in Life Skills workshops, behavior management, SharePoint, operational procedures, and other Detention Services initiatives. 

Collect, evaluate, and analyze operational, compliance, and performance datat to identify trends, assess program effectiveness, and develop recommendations. Prepare reports, document findings, and monitors progress related to operational improvements and management practices. 

Promotes effective communicate and collaboration by fostering positive working relationships with faciility leadership and regional staff. Communicates information clearly and professionally while encouraging open dialogue, teamwork, and the sharing of best practices to support Detention Services organizational goals.

Identify areas for operational enhancement and provides ongoing facility support through meetings, training, technical assistance requests, site visit reviews, and quarterly report card discussions. Collaborate problem-solving efforts by facilitating discussions on facility successes, challenges, and corrective action strategies to strengthen overall performance.

 

Coordinates and oversee the Life Skills Program by planning, facilitating, and delivering Life Skills training workshops to Detention Services staff. Monitors and maintains records of Life Skills facilitators and tracks.the delivery of groups for youth. Serve as a subject matter expert by providing technical assistance and support to facility administration, staff, and facilitators.

Oversee the statewide Behavior Management System (BMS) by monitoring compliance with established policies and procedures. Develop, maintain, and distribute the monthly BMS calendar. Serve as a subject matter expert by providing technical assistance to facility administration and staff. 

Participates as a peer reviewer for Monitoring and Quality Improvement (MQI) reviews. 

Performs other related duties as assigned

 

Due to the nature of the work, overnight travel is required. Travel may be with little to no notice at the discretion of management. A valid and current State of Florida Driver's License is required.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Software
  • Knowledge of Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of Detention Center Operations
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures
  • Using logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Ability to understand and follow agency travel policies.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma and four or more years of experience in detention, prevention, probation, residential, or another human services field.
