 This is a non-sworn law enforcement dispatch opportunity

DUTIES:                                          

This is a responsible position requiring independent decision making and the ability to monitor and operate the two-way radio system, NCIC/ FCIC computer terminal (i.e. teletype) and telephone while participating in the composing and disseminating of information through these communications systems to agency personnel, other law enforcement agencies and the public while maintaining accurate records as required by the agency, FCC and FDLE.     

Monitors and operates the two-way radio, telephone and teletype, dispatches law enforcement officers and other personnel to respond to citizen complaints and crime in progress, receives and dispatches information or administrative messages regarding the safety of officers performing hazardous duty and maintains accurate records on all transmission as required by the agency and FCC, contacts law enforcement administrators regarding any emergency radio broadcast.  Through radio and telephone contact, constantly maintains location and status of law enforcement personnel.     

 

Monitors and operates the NCIC/FCIC computer terminal, sends BOLO messages received regarding dangerous or wanted criminals to officers, receives emergency or informational requests from officers and programs these messages into the computer, maintains accurate records relating to computer transmissions as required by the agency and FDLE, relays NCIC/FCIC information.  Evaluates, disseminates and provides security for criminal and/or confidential information to authorized personnel 24 hours per day.     

 

Answers long distance and local telephone calls for law enforcement purposes and public response.  Disseminates information to the public and employees regarding laws and rules and regulations of the Division while maintaining accurate records relating to telephone communications as required by the agency.    

Keeps current on all procedures, laws, regulations, and rules while maintaining and operating the office and equipment in an orderly manner, posting required general information, keeping and filing records, materials and information.  Performs miscellaneous clerical duties as needed.  After hours, weekends and holidays, provides security for the Communications Command Center.  Responds to emergencies and alarms.    

 

Performs related duties as required.   

 

NOTICE:

Applicants, including qualified veterans seeking veteran's preference: Due to FDLE CJIS security requirements regarding FCIC/NCIC access, candidates/veteran’s selected for consideration must successfully pass a preliminary level-1 background check prior to participating in the required Public-Safety Dispatcher/Call Taker Pre-employment testing. Applicants that pass the pre-determined test scoring criteria will be invited to participate in a verbal assessment and interview.   

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to use personal computer.  Ability to follow written/verbal instructions.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.  Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.  Ability to respond to the public in a calm, effective manner; remain calm and maintain communications during emergency situations.  Ability to speak clearly and listen effectively.  Ability to operate radio-teletype, two-way radio and other related communications equipment.  Ability to learn and use Law Enforcement Radio Ten Signals.   

 

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Must be willing to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

2. Must be willing to be called in to work during staff shortages, special details or emergency situations and be onsite within the hour.

3. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

4. Type a minimum of 35 correct words per minute.

5. Qualified applicants/veteran’s selected for consideration are required to pass a preliminary level -1 background check to advance to the Public-Safety Dispatcher / Call Taker Pre-Employment Test (Please allow for 1 ½ to 2 hours for this assessment). Applicants passing the pre-determined scoring criteria will advance to a verbal assessment and interview. 

6. Employee must obtain CJIS certification within first six months of employment. 

7. Pass a level 2 background check.
