Description of duties: This leadership position serves as the District Wildlife Biologist for: Arbuckle, Walk-in-Water, KICCO, Lake Marion Creek, Hickory Hammock, and Avon Park Air Force Range WMAs; Lake Wales Ridge, Bullfrog Creek, Moody Branch, and Crooked Lake WEAs; and Kissimmee River PUA.


Specific duties include: project administration; collection, manipulation, analysis, and presentation of biological data; habitat management; managing public use, including public hunt operation; providing leadership and mentoring to subordinates, including direct supervision of two biological scientist IIIs; developing plans; developing and managing budgets; and writing reports and technical papers. 


QUALIFICATIONS: This is not an entry level position.  A Bachelor's degree in a life pr physical science is required, a MS in Wildlife preferred.  Strong interpersonal skills are required to lead, supervise and mentor employees, and to develop and leverage partnerships with other agencies.  Strong land management skills are required to evaluate habitat conditions and prescribe and direct appropriate treatments.  Applicant must have applied knowledge of wildlife population and habitat management techniques in Florida, particularly the application of prescribed fire, and mechanical and chemical vegetation control.  GIS and other technological skills are also requisite for this level of land management, including a working knowledge of WHM programs such as LMIS, SAMP, and OBVM.  Strong administrative, organizational, and budget management skills are required to manage multiple projects and their associated budget.  Job requirements therefore consist of the KSAs described above, or a solid foundation of wildlife habitat management in Florida, coupled with the motivation, initiative and proclivity to develop and apply the KSAs listed above.
