CURRENT VACANCY:  The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is seeking a self-motivated, energetic, outcome-oriented individual to coordinate the FWC’s archery programs.  These programs consist of the Florida National Archery in the Schools (NASP) and Olympic Archery in Schools (OAS) programs, as well as others.  Interested individuals must be passionate about archery, target shooting and getting youth outside to create the next generation that cares about fish and wildlife resources.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:  Incumbent will be responsible for recruiting schools, training coaches and organizing state and regional tournaments.  They will serve as a liaison between the FWC, and national archery program administration; assist in coordinating regional, state and national tournaments; increasing archery participation by promoting archery to schools; tracking school participation; coordinating instructor training; effectively communicating and working with a wide range of partners.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for leading the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP), Olympic Archery in Schools (OAS) programs in the State of Florida.

  • Motivate a diverse range of partners and schools to actively engage youth in archery programming and conservation stewardship activities
  • Recruiting and orienting volunteers and coaches
  • Identify, foster and leverage partnership opportunities to reach diverse audiences
  • Act as liaison between partners/schools and FWC administration
  • Evaluate archery programs and activities
  • Conduct trainings and provide instruction to enhance archery programs
  • Identify and prioritize materials and equipment needs at schools and coordinate equipment distribution
  • Work with FWC Divisions and Offices to ensure agency involvement with youth archery programs
  • Convey FWC’s vision for increasing participation in archery through effective writing and oral communication

Responsible for leading FWC’s efforts to recruit, retain and reactive (R3) archers, hunters and target shooters in Florida:

  • Identify and assess current archery R3 efforts
  • Map current archery programs via the Outdoor Recreation Adoption Model
  • Develop and prioritize strategies and action items that adapt, improve and expand efforts to meet specific, measurable R3 goals

Administrative Duties: 

  • Attend staff meetings, complete and submit required reports, participate in professional development courses, and complete timesheets in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Assure that files and documentation are complete, accurate, and confidentially maintained.
  • Prepare budget expense requests, monitor and track programs expenses, coordinate program activities to reflect budget requirements.
  • Prepare grant proposals, manage grants, and submit required grant reports.

Working Hours:  8:00am – 5:00pm Working hours will be variable at times, requiring work on holidays, weekends, and nights and hours in excess of eight hours during one day.  Employee is expected to balance hours worked to not exceed 40 hours per week.

Residency Requirement: None; however, the employee is expected to work from the established office.

Level of Education:  Minimum five years of experience teaching archery, fish and wildlife conservation field work, marketing or education program implementation with at least two of them teaching archery. A bachelor’s degree can substitute for four years of the required 5 years of experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of archery, archery equipment, hunting and shooting sports
  • Experience in education program design, development, implementation and assessment
  • Ability to use abstract reasoning, problem solving, planning, and analytical skills in training, evaluation, and program development
  • Ability to be a team player and work integrally with various stakeholders, partners, schools and government agencies
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and work creatively
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing
  • Skilled in public speaking
  • Ability to deal professionally and sensitively with a diverse audience and a wide range of contacts at different levels
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, crouch, carry and move items up to 50lbs with our without reasonable accommodations
