School Based Sealant Program Dental Hygienist

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Working as a team and utilizing expertise as a dental hygienist providing preventive dental services, preparing and teaching dental presentations in schools. 
  • Implementing and completing SEALS data entry
  • Case management of children with urgent needs in the school based sealant program and increase referrals to dental homes for children in need of services.
  • Assisting with preparing orders and inventory control for School Based Sealant Program.
  • Coordinate with SBSP Supervisor and Dental Services Program Manager according to need.
  • Maintaining records and entering clinical services into Eaglesoft and HMS.
  • Traveling to schools daily in a state vehicle
  • Ability to work in Health Department Dental Clinics as needed.
  • Examines patient’s mouth and dentition and charts any pathologic disorders.
  • Performs all tasks allowable by Florida Statute including dental prophylaxis, SRP, exposure of x-rays, application of topical fluoride and sealants and delivery of local anesthesia by injection if certified
  • Maintain patients records though EHR (HMS, Eaglesoft).
  • Attends and participates in dental health unit staff meetings.
  • Ensures that equipment and instruments are sterilized and maintained.
  • In a courteous and accurate manner, informs public of clinic procedures and CHD services, and refers to other agencies as needed.
  • Complies with security policies and guidelines.
  • Instruct patients/parents (guardians) in oral hygiene utilizing appropriate aides.
  • Maintains material knowledge up to date as provided by manufacturers.
  • Appropriately maintain state equipment and instruments through lubrication, sterilization and daily cleaning.
  • Accurately document records as instructed by dentist and the CHD Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Handles Behavior Management cases as dictated by the American Association of Pediatric Dentistry
  • Accurately enters patient information into approved electronic health record
  • Travel to all clinics as requested.

  • Skills on preparation of dental materials, skills on sterilization and infection control, skills on equipment maintenance.
  • Skills on delivery of expanded functions, skills on record keeping, computer skills, skills on efficient patient flow.
  • Ability to communicate with children, parents, co-workers, in general. 
  • Ability to avoid and resolve conflict in a professional manner. Incumbent covers clinic in the Pinellas County area.
  • Ability to drive to satellite clinics.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum – 

  • Licensure as a Florida Dental Hygienist in accordance with Chapter 466 of the Florida Statutes.
  • CPR certification
  • Florida Drivers’ License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.

 

Preferred –

  • At least one year of experience as an RDH
  • Certification in local anesthesia.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish highly desired.

Where You Will Work:

This position will serve on the Pinellas County School Based Dental Sealant Program where teams of hygienist’s travel to the Title 1 elementary schools with portable dental equipment and provide preventive dental services to children including oral health assessments, oral hygiene instructions, sealants and fluoride.

 

This is a highly responsible, professional position that requires effective communication with school principals and staff, oral health education with children, organization of paperwork for data entry, entering clinical services into Eaglesoft and HMS, knowledge of portable dental equipment, and ability to track inventory. This position requires local travel and varying work schedule.
