MEDICAL ASSISTANT CERTIFICATION

WORK SCHEDULE FOR THIS POSTION FOLLOWS THE SCHOOL CALENDAR

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

 

CLINICAL DUTIES

  • Provide first aid, acute and emergency care to ill/injured students, faculty, and staff. 

  • Receive all medications from parent/guardian per established protocol.  Count with parent/guardian and log all incoming medications, document accurately, notifying parent when additional medication is needed.
  • Provide supervision for the safe and accurate self-administration of medications by students, including administering insulin as per policy. 
  • Provide safe, accurate nursing procedures for ordered treatments. 
  • Take vital signs including temperature and, when needed, B/P and pulse.
  • Receive and log phone calls regarding student illnesses, absenteeism, etc. 
  • Assist RN in identifying health problems in students by reviewing all incoming health records and assist in completing health needs awareness list as well as the medication list.  
  • Maintain confidentiality of all records and client interactions and services per HIPAA and FERPA privacy policies. Document on appropriate forms all services, assessments, interactions, and reactions. 
  • Staff and maintain health room. Clean area per standard protocols.  Adhere to universal precautions.  Dispose of any used materials and supplies appropriately.

 

CLERICAL DUTIES

  • Complete daily and weekly clinic logs.  Organize and maintain student records and filing system.
  • Enter data into computer utilizing the approved data system software. 
  • Oversee distribution, collection, and filing of all clinic cards.  Complete clinic portion of accident and injury reports, documenting actions on clinic cards. 
  • Maintain inventory of all clinic supplies and forms (including care plans and parent letters).  Prepares and updates clinic forms and paperwork as needed.
  • Assist RN with preparation of medical records for Quality Assurance Review. 
  • Completes required agency reports and forms including timesheets, EARS, and Travel within required timeframes. 

 

IMMUNIZATION DATA DUTIES

  • Routinely review immunization data in FOCUS and FLShots to ensure student immunization status is up to date, making appropriate changes in focus as needed.
  • Follow-up on students identified by the CHNS to determine if their immunization status has been updated and exclude the student if necessary.

 

OTHER RELATED DUTIES

  • Maintain CPR and First Aid Certifications.
  • Complete mandatory trainings within required timeframes including how to administer insulin. 
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff and supervisor. 
  • Act as backup for Health Support Technicians at other school locations as needed. 
  • Attend and participates in staff meetings.
  • Utilize the computer daily for e-mail, communication with supervisor, information and documentation. 

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

  • Knowledge of normal and abnormal health conditions and basic terminology;
  • Skill in using medical instruments or testing equipment;
  • Skill in taking vital signs;
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and software programs. 
  • Skill in using medical instruments or testing equipment.
  • Ability to keep accurate records, compile data and prepare reports;
  • Ability to work independently.

Qualifications:

Minimum

  • Possess a high diploma or equivalent;
  • Possess a current, unrestricted CNA license or Medical Assistant registration;
  • Possess a current CPR certification;
  • Able to work a 10-month work schedule following the school calendar;
  • Hold a current Florida Driver’s license and access to and use of dependable transportation; 
  • Exhibit at least 1 year experience working as a CNA or Medical Assistant;
  • Have experience operating computers and using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel

Preferred

  • Fluent in Spanish,
  • Have experience working with school age children.
