Starting Annual Salary: $48,410.18, plus current annual Competitive Area Differential (C.A.D.) of $644.80 totaling $49,054.98

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current employee of the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
  • Four years professional accounting experience.
  • Proficient in using a computer as well as Microsoft Office Suite to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.
  • Experience with Florida Accounting Information Resource system.
  • Successful completion of the due diligence process to include, but not limited to, a Level II background check.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of accounting, payroll, professional experience in a governmental organization.
  • Experience in conducting research to resolve problems and related transaction and complete correction journal entries.
  • Proficiency working with web-based accounting software.
  • Proficiency conducting work-related internet research.
  • Experience with My Florida Market Place also referred to as Ariba.
  • Proficiency working with web-based accounting software.
  • Intermediate level proficiency performing fiscal/financial/accounting studies, analyzing data, and making recommendations on course of action-based findings.
  • Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper and timely completion of work assignments, including multiple and complex projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to produce accurate and timely information under tight timeframes.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This is professional accounting work involving the independent application of accounting and auditing concepts, principles, theory, and technical skills in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS), independently performing accounting work that is highly specialized and requires the design and development of financial policies, procedures, and programs used by the agency including preparation of reports and analyses in accordance with applicable standards. This position is involved in payroll process, purchase card approval, and in overall accounts payable process of the Department.  Performs accounting and payroll functions in FLAIR, People First, Florida PALM, MY Florida Market Place (MFMP) also referred to as Ariba, along with reconciliation of payroll download and Florida PALM processes.  It requires the ability to understand, interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge, skills, and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Payroll, FLAIR, MFMP, proficient in using a computer as well as Microsoft Office Suite to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook, verbal and written skills, general accounting processes and procedures, creating and updating SOPs, and 10-key adding machine.

Examples of Work May Include

  • Proficient in performing fiscal/financial/accounting studies, analyzing data, and making recommendations on course of action-based findings.
  • Process Vendor invoices, contracts, journal transfers, purchase cards and travel vouchers for payment in MFMP and FLAIR.  Acts as the back-up in payroll processing related activities.
  • Prepare and enter journal entries and other adjustments as needed.
  • Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper and timely completion of work assignments, including multiple and complex projects.
  • Proficient in analyzing data and making recommendations on course of action-based findings.
  • Assist in Fiscal Year-End projects including but not limited to Certified Forward and Encumbrance review.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Answers calls and emails from auditors, vendors, staff, and others concerning various questions and problems.
  • Works on special research and analysis projects (including monthly review of Encumbrance report and reconciliation of vendor statements) as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Examples include preparation of special reports, cross-training with other sections within Fiscal and occasional work assignments with other sections and/or sites, assistance with special projects, maintenance of the office filing systems, depositing checks into the bank, and attendance at training and other meetings and support, as required.
