MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Forestry or a related field from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university; or
Anticipated receipt of a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Forestry or a related field from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university within six (6) months of the closing date of this advertisement.
NOTE: Applicants in this category will not be appointed until they have acquired and provide final proof of receiving the required degree.
A bachelor’s and/or master’s degrees in Forestry or a related field obtained outside the United States must either: 1) be obtained from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university; or 2) curriculum must include at least two (2) of the following four (4) courses: Silviculture, Dendrology, Forest Mensuration or Forest Management.
NOTE: Applicants will provide an academic equivalency evaluation obtained in the United States showing the required courses.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Occasional to moderate travel required.
Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.
JOB DUTIES:
This is a technical position demanding a high degree of forestry background. This individual should exhibit skills in self-motivation and the ability to communicate with the public as well as FFS personnel.
Performs related field work and computer operations for determination of timber cruising and marking statistics. Assists in surveying and establishing new boundary lines and maintaining previously established boundary lines. Performs related field work for stand description mapping and continuous forest inventory. Also assists in the detection and treatment of insect/disease attacks and invasive plants on the forest. Maintains records of all assigned projects including timber harvesting, reforestation/restoration, herbicide operations to assure compliance with contract requirements.
Responsible for assisting the supervisor in the development of long and short-term forest management plans relating to the timber program on assigned tracts of the Withlacoochee State Forest. This includes the Ten-Year Forest Management Plan, as well as two-year cutting budget and annual prescribe burning plans. Oversees reforestation/restoration projects, herbicide applications, and assists in the development and implementation of the environmental analysis procedure. This position may be required to perform Forest Inventory Analysis (FIA) work, including FIA Certification by the United States Forest Service and the gathering, and recording of FIA plot data in the field.
Provides wildfire and emergency response support as directed. Assists in the development of smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning plans and hazardous fuels mitigation. Assists in the enforcement of Florida's open burning laws and regulations.
Responsible for the care and maintenance of assigned vehicles, tools and equipment. Assists with an inventory of supplies needed to accomplish assignments.
Performs other duties as assigned.
