Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is an advanced public health nurse working in a specialized area of public health.  The primary responsibility of this position is to perform advanced and extended public health nursing functions in the area of family planning.  Incumbent may have access to records containing social security numbers in the performance of job duties and is responsible for securing the designated information, both confidential and public record which is stored in hard copy or electronic form.  The position is supervised by the Administrator.  Duties of the position include: Reviews and interprets the medical history of family planning clients.  Performs appropriate physical examination of family planning clients per protocols.  Manages preventative/therapeutic health care regimens of family planning clients.  Provides in-depth guidance and counseling for family planning clients.  Evaluates clients for family planning services and prescribes contraceptive method in accordance with protocols.  Evaluates and manages family planning client complaints according to protocols.  Manages selected chronic and acute conditions covered by protocols; refers client as appropriate.  Is responsible to provide follow-up for clients with abnormal pap smear results. Provides counseling, examination, referral and follow-up for clients desiring permanent sterilization per Title X guidelines and CHD Consortium procedure.  Maintains documentation of all services provided per DOH, Title X and Medicaid standards.

Plans for and conducts family planning related teaching programs for organizations, communities, and schools.  Is responsible for maintaining a Family Planning Information and Education committeee according to DOH and Title X guidelines.  Plans and delivers family planning service promotion.

Participates in the planning and operation of the family planning program; including quality improvement review, protocol updates and client satisfaction promotion.  Evaluates family planning program client outcome and family planning clinic operation and implements corrective measures after collaboration with CHD Administration. Completes quarterly sterilization reports, Title X  and other family planning program reports as assigned.

Performs adult health screenings, work, school, refugee health and Florida Breast and Cervical Early Detection Program examinations in accordance with established protocols and DOH standards.  Responsible for assessment and treatment of sexually transmitted infections according to Family Planning and DOH protocols.  Maintains documentation of services per DOH and Medicaid standards.

Participates in orientation and staff development programs for staff assisting with family planning client care.  Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skills in current family planning practices.  Attends family planning updates and updates on women's health as directed.  Provides current protocols to Florida Board of Nursing as required.  Accumulates CEUs necessary for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license renewal.  Maintains current CPR certification.  Other duties as assigned.   May be assigned on-call duties for DOH-Suwannee and DOH-Lafayette.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Utilization of physical assessment skills and the ability to synthesize subjective and objective data in developing a problem list.  Ability to assess the family planning needs of the well female patient, to manage common gynecological problems and appropriately refer those problems which are beyond the scope of competency.  Insertion and removal of IUD’s available in family planning program and insertion and removal of contraceptive implant.

 

Qualifications:

Licensure in the State of Florida as a RN, APRN

Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. All employees are expected to complete timesheets and EARs/DARs as required, both accurately and within the required timeframe. All employees are expected to complete mandatory trainings within the required timeframe, as deemed necessary by the Department, the Delegated Authority, grant requirements and/or Florida Statutes.
