Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the implementation of dental clinical services at the Florida Department of Health in Lafayette and Suwannee counties. This position functions under the direct supervision of the County Health Department Administrator.
Performs the following clinical duties and responsibilities:
- Conducts oral examinations and evaluations
- Performs occlusal analysis, diagnosis, and treatment plans
- Treats infections, oral diseases, injuries, and malformations of the mouth, teeth, and oral cavity
- Provides restorative care using amalgam, composite materials, and ADA approved materials
- Provides pedodontics, preventive, periodontal, fixed, and removable prosthodontic, and non-surgical endodontic care
- Performs extractions and other related oral surgical procedures
- Provides appropriate referrals to dental specialists and medical providers and follows up on referrals
- Provides dental consultations as needed
- Practices infection control according to Florida laws and rules, OSHA, and CDC guidelines
- Documents client encounters in client records and ensures accuracy and completeness of dental records
- Documents client encounters on billing sheets
- Performs periodic record reviews and audits
Supervises dental hygienist and dental assistant including attendance and leave, daily job performance, evaluations and discipline per DOH policies and protocols. Provides training in dental procedures and other procedures, as needed. Plans workloads, workflow, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees. Evaluates employees through establishing evaluation criteria and responsibilities and meeting regularly with employees to ensure the established criteria are met. Trains employees in methods for performing an effective and efficient job.
Communicates on a regular basis with employees both individually and in staff meetings.
Maintains and/or updates the Dental Program Policy and Procedure Manual, the Infection Control Manual, Hazardous Communication Manual, Quality Assurance Manual and FLOSS.
Assists with the development of proposals and contracts associated with the Dental Program. Develop, improve and evaluate dental care services at DOH-Lafayette and DOH-Suwannee.
Performs related duties as assigned.
This position is responsible for securing the designated information set(s) for the purpose of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access, for all information, both confidential and public record, which is stored in hard copy or electronic formats.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques of dentistry; knowledge of dental treatment techniques; skill in using dental instruments and equipment, ability to perform dental examinations and diagnose dental problems; ability to supervise people; ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Knowledge of basic dental procedures and policies Skill in conducting x-rays, oral examinations and evaluations. Skill in providing restorative dental care; skill in providing extractions and other related oral surgical procedures. Ability to treat oral diseases, injuries, infections, and malformations. Ability to work with a diverse population and other employees in a small group setting. Ability to provide dental care to children in a community health setting. Knowledge of infection control practices, including Florida laws and rules, OSHA and CDC guidelines.
Qualifications:
Minimum
Currently Florida license to practice dentistryCurrent Florida licensure as a Dentist in accordance with F.S. 466
Pediatric dentistry work experience
Experience in patient education
