This is an excellent opportunity for a talented employee seeking a challenging and rewarding position as a non-resident OPS Park Attendant at one of Florida's most dynamic state parks. The selected employee will be immersed in the daily operation of Madison Blue Spring State Park, a crystal clear, first magnitude spring. Madison Blue is a popular spot for swimming and cave diving. About 82 feet wide, 25 feet deep, and a 150-foot spring-run merging with the river, the spring bubbles up into a limestone basin along the west bank of the Withlacoochee River. Scenic woodlands of mixed hardwoods and pines create a picturesque setting for picnicking, paddling, and wildlife viewing. Voted the #1 swimming hole in the country by USA Today in 2015, Madison Blue Spring is a family favorite destination.

This position is centered on day to day park maintenance and park operations to serve visitors who take part in swimming, hiking, fishing, bird watching, and many other activities.

Pay:

$15.00 PER HOUR

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Required to perform various duties including the following: visitor services/visitor education, park maintenance, park protection, and ensuring compliance.

 

Visitor Services – Explains facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment and education; meets visitors, answers questions, provides information and directions.  Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations. 

 

Maintenance - Responsible for janitorial cleaning and maintenance of all park facilities, including restrooms, rental cabins, playgrounds, campsites, pavilions, and grills.

 

Resource Management - Understand importance of ecological burning for fire type plant communities; Recognize communities and maintain optimum species control via natural and chemical means.

 

Administration - Prepare forms and reports on a wide range of subjects including fees, daily receipt and sales reports.  Answer the telephone, operate personal computer, operate radio equipment, and maintain logs. Operate a point-of-sale cash register; accurately collect, record and reconcile revenue collected. Maintain an organized work space.

 

Protection - Ensures park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical and archaeological facilities and resources and use thereof for enjoyment of the visitor.

 

Performs related work as required.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge, skill, and ability to:

  • perform house and grounds keeping duties and apply maintenance trades
  • operating mowers, chainsaws, standard power and manual tools
  • knowledge and ability to perform routine inspections
  • identify and investigate problems and maintain facilities and equipment
  • Basic computer skills to be able to fill in short reports and communicate effectively with internal emails

Skill in:

  • computer applications such as MS Office
  • resource management techniques
  • providing top-notch visitor services through the cleanliness and maintenance of facilities and high-quality visitor contact experiences
  • operating trucks, tractors, vehicles up to 2-ton level

Ability to:

  • work rotating shifts including nights, holidays and weekends
  • communicate verbally and in writing
  • perform physical labor utilizing power/electrical/gas tools and equipment
  • deal with visitor inquiries in a tactful, efficient and courteous manner
  • deal with people and maintain good public relations
  • enforce rules and regulations
  • prepare and keep accurate reports
  • maintain a valid driver’s license
  • follow verbal and written instructions
  • prepare reports
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • understand and apply rules, directives, policies, laws and regulations

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid driver’s license.
