This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Region 2 Office in the Maintenance Department.
The mission of Facilities Management and Building Construction at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide a safe, secure, and efficient environment for staff, inmates, and visitors. This is achieved through the effective management, maintenance, and construction of correctional facilities, ensuring they meet all regulatory standards and support the department's overall mission of public safety and rehabilitation.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
As supervisor, this position communicates with, motivates, provides or coordinates training, evaluates employees’ work, plans and directs the employees’ work and has the authority to recommend the hire, transfer or discipline of subordinate employees. This is a professional position in the construction field responsible for managing all phases of Fixed Capital Outlay projects (FCO), new construction, maintenance and preventive maintenance, and repair and renovation projects handled by Contract and Force Account Procedures. Assists the Bureau Chief of Construction in the establishment of priorities of construction projects and the preparation of the annual Legislative Budget Request (LBR).
- Supervises staff in reviewing plans, budgets, schedules, specifications, and bid packages; analyzes bids, recommends awards, approves shop drawings, visits job sites, resolves construction issues, and ensures compliance with contract documents
- Provides professional direction for developing departmental plans, assists in preparing FCO budget requests, and offers advice and solutions for facility-related problems
- Administers construction projects by developing plans, budgets, schedules, processing change orders, preparing estimates, and ensuring contractor compliance; briefs supervisors on project progress
- Monitors project schedules, budgets, and fund allocation, ensuring compliance with approved budgets
- Participates in evaluating and selecting A/E consultants, negotiating contracts, and administering work performed by outside A/E firms, including managing pay requests, invoices, schedules, and plan reviews

REQUIREMENTS:
- At least two (2) years of supervisory/managerial/ team lead experience in a construction or related environment.
- At least three (3) years of operations and construction experience and a bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related area, OR At least five (5) years of operations and construction experience and an associate’s degree, or At least eight (8) years of operations and construction work experience
Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.
