Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility.

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as a Food Production and Service Supervisor at the Northeast Florida State Hospital. This position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented. 

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Supervises seven kitchen employees in the proper preparation, cooking and serving of foods to ensure optimum customer satisfaction.
  • Provides feedback and corrective action as indicated.
  • Ensures that subordinates have the appropriate equipment to accomplish their duties as needed.
  • Completes performance evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Reviews menus and determines amount of food to be taken from storage for the preparation of meals.
  • Ensures subordinates are utilizing the appropriate serving utensils to prevent waste and ensure adequate serving size per prescribed diet.
  • Trains subordinates in the preparation of foods and the correct usage of dietary equipment to ensure a safe, secure and sanitary environment.
  • Monitors and checks all food temperatures before serving a meal to ensure that hot foods and cold foods are stored/served at the appropriate temperature.
  • Inspects kitchen area on a daily basis for efficiency and cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Prepares employee schedules and assigns replacement personnel as necessary.
  • Reviews and approves employee time sheets via the KRONOS timekeeping system, ensuring accuracy.
  • Attends in-service training and performs related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

  • Knowledge of the equipment, procedures and techniques used in food service.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of food service safety and sanitary procedures.
  • Ability to estimate food and supply requirements.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetical calculations.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of cooking/food preparation experience.
  • One year in a key holder/management position.
