The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility.

This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Plumber OPS within the Safety and Operations Division. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. This role requires the use of independent judgment, a proactive approach to responsibilities, and exceptional attention to detail. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • This position installs, maintains and repairs plumbing and heating fixtures and accessories.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs plumbing fixtures such as faucets, sinks, valves, vents, water coolers and fountains, etc., in a professional manner to ensure optimum customer satisfaction.   
  • Required to operate State owned vehicles.
  • Opens clogged drains and maintains sewer lines. 
  • Maintains high and low pressure steam boilers, ensures safety devices and controls are operating properly, cleans boilers, hot water heaters, etc.
  • Requisitions materials needed to complete jobs.
  • Cuts and threads pipe for installation of water and steam lines.
  • Repairs Kitchen and Laundry equipment as necessary.
  • Performs duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

  • Knowledge of the procedures and methods for installing, repairing and maintaining plumbing and heating fixtures and accessories.
  • Skill in using pipecutters, reamers, threading machines and other specialized tools and equipment.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in plumbing.
  • Vocational/technical training in plumbing and pipefitting can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of the required experience.
  • In accordance with Florida Statute 322, possession of a Classified Driver's License (Class E Driver’s license).
