Registered Nurse Specialist (Infection Control) - #60010115

 

This position is being advertised as a temporary position.  The incumbent shall work at the leisure of the facility.  This position could last up to six (6) months or less based on agency needs.

 

Description:

This is a Registered Nurse Specialist position located within the Infection Control Department.

 

Duties & Responsibilities/Examples of Work:

  • Assists Specialty Physicians or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with examinations and procedures during specialty clinics.  Set up and maintain necessary equipment for procedures, biopsies, cultures, optical equipment, etc.  Explain procedures and prepare patients for all examinations.  Complete and photocopy all necessary paperwork during and at the end of clinics.  Pull and file patient charts for all internal specialty clinics.  Create internal clinic schedules, provide notification to all residential care areas for neurology, dermatology, optical, and ophthalmology clinics.
  • Performs sterile processing of medical instruments.  Decontamination / sanitation of medical equipment, i.e., IV pumps, feeding and suctioning machines, etc.  Order and maintain supplies required for sterilization procedures and specialty clinics.  Performs weekly / monthly audits of the autoclave machines utilized in sterile processing.  Performs monthly infection control audits of assigned residential care areas.  Prepare monthly clinic reports by the 5th of each month.
  • Assists Ophthalmology Consultant Physician with eye examinations and procedures of patients.  Performs hand-on examinations of patients such as pupil dilation, chart reading, glaucoma testing, etc.  Sets up necessary equipment for clinic.  Photocopies necessary paperwork.  Performs minor repairs on eyeglasses.  Completes and photocopies necessary paperwork at the end of the clinic.
  • Assists with hospital-wide HIV / AIDS / TB / HEP ABC, Pneumovax and Influenza programs for both the patients and employees’ health.  Maintains active 501 HIV and current Counselor certification. 
  • Performs monthly infection control audits for all residential care areas.  Educates NEFSH staff regarding infection control related issues.
  • Responsible for employee and persons served significant exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens investigation and follow up.   Performs Employees N95 Fit testing.
  • Performs bone density testing for both patients and employees.  Maintains QA component for bone density machine.
  • Serves as back-up to the Infection Control Department Registered Nurse’s with the admission’s process which includes HIV / AIDS pre-test counseling, 1st step Mantoux testing and Tetanus Diphtheria or Tetanus Diphtheria Pertussis vaccine administration, pneumococcal vaccination, and flu vaccine.
  • Ability to walk extended distances across the campus.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Licensure as a registered professional nurse in accordance with FS 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with FAC 210-8.27.
  •  HIV 501 Certification Required.
