Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.
Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 706-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
This is advanced professional nursing position that monitor nursing care across campus. The incumbent in this position will demonstrate exceptional leadership characteristics, possess excellent nursing assessment and clinical skills, display critical thinking skills, utilize professional communication, and be familiar with a wide range of medications and medical treatments options. Is self-directed in using good judgment and problem-solving skills to provide adequate input, formulate decisions, and complete role/task/reports in a timely, cooperative manner. Ability to assess and manage difficult circumstances and formulate a solid action plan in adherence to all policies and procedures.
- Assess resident nursing care requirements of each unit, review admission criteria for unit placement, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and outside hospitals to ensure continuity of care provided. Works diligently to optimize the quality of nursing care across the facility by undertaking efforts to review clinical competency and assist with developing efforts to prevent adverse events and promote quality care outcomes. Works closely with the Chief of Nursing Services and Executive Nursing Director as a resource in reviewing, identifying, and developing nursing care improvement opportunities.
- Accurately retrieves data from patient records, direct observation, and other data collection methods (chart audits) for hospital quality improvement activities. This position is responsible for the monitoring, auditing and evaluation of the daily clinical operations utilizing nursing and clinical monitoring tools. Possess strong analytical skills to easily interpret numerical outcome data and present it visually. Assists with Continuous Quality Improvement project, as assigned by the CNO.
- Assists and provides input on the development and/or revision of operating procedures, direct care manuals, and nursing care manuals.
- Performs other related duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

Minimum Qualifications:
- Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27 and four years of professional nursing experience, two years of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in nursing can substitute for one year of the required general professional nursing experience.
- A master's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing can substitute for two years of the required general professional nursing experience.
