Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.
Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility.

THIS IS AN ANTICIPATED VACANCY.
This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Trades Supervisor – SES within the Maintenance Department. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
- The incumbent in this position is responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of the hospitals mission statement, vision, values, long term strategic objectives, annual business plans objectives, organizational structure and NEFSH operating procedures relevant to assigned duties and responsibilities. Complies with NEFSH Operating Procedures and Administrative directives.
- Check for quality and quantity of work performed by the Painters, and Maintenance Mechanics-Carpentry under his supervision to ensure optimum customer satisfaction.
- Report to the Maintenance Superintendent II any difficulties with the type or quantity of work beyond local capabilities.
- Verifying the KRONOS schedule and making adjustments to meet operational needs and/or minimize potential for overtime.
- Is responsible for maintaining accurate record of leave used and current leave balances for all assigned staff.
- Establish proper levels of general maintenance material and equipment and submit requisitions for those items that are needed to perform painting job orders in the most cost efficient manner.
- Requisitions are to include all pertinent information such as availability, quantity, prices, extended prices, recommendation of firms, names of contact persons, addresses and telephone numbers.
- Prepare estimated labor and material needed for projects requested by the Maintenance Superintendent II.
- Ensure that the proposed time schedules are kept up including the delivery of scheduled material.
- Unscheduled interruptions are reported to the Maintenance Superintendent II with alternatives for corrective actions.
- Schedule Painters for continuous coverage of the hospital’s Painting needs including weekend coverage for scheduling around ward occupancy.
- Schedule Maintenance Mechanics for continuous coverage of the hospital’s Maintenance needs including holiday and weekend coverage.
- Ensure that Maintenance Mechanics are available to respond to emergencies during off-hours including this position.
- Work areas are to be cleared each day for the prevention of hazardous conditions and cluttering.
- Upon finishing of the work, the work areas are to be left in an acceptable condition.
- Set performance indicators and review the proficiency of the employees assigned to this position’s supervision.
- Advise Maintenance Superintendent II if workers are unable to do certain jobs or need additional training.
- Update and train workers, keeping up-to-date on the most current painting practices and applicable Federal, State, County and City Codes.
- Ensure materials and tools issued to these trades staff members are accounted for.
- Report any damaged, abused, lost or broken tools and equipment (including state vehicles) to the Maintenance Superintendent II. Manage, train and motivate assigned employees following applicable standards of conduct in accordance with higher directives and union contracts.
- Initiates disciplinary action with final action taken in accordance with current directives.
- Prepare performance evaluations based upon standards of performance.
- Monitor attendance and absenteeism; schedule time off for vacations, FLSA, compensation time and overtime and other timekeeping duties.
- Major interruptions or problems are noted and reported to the Maintenance Superintendent II.
- The routine and emergency repair schedule should receive prior approval by the Maintenance Superintendent II.
- Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Three years of experience in supervising skilled tradesman.
Preference will be given to applicants who have:
- Knowledge in Microsoft 365, Excel, Power point, Visio, Outlook & Word.
