This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Jackson Correctional Institution in the Education department. This position is for an Adult Basic Education/GED® Instructor responsible for delivery of instruction in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies through a blended instructional model.
The mission of the Bureau of Education at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide comprehensive educational programs and services to inmates. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
The incumbent in this position is responsible for teaching assigned academic subjects to students at a correctional institution/facility. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
- Supervise inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.
- Ensure order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluate student progress, and administer grades and tests.
- Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
- Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.

Salary Incentives:
- Applicants in possession of a master’s degree (official transcripts) may be eligible for an additional $1,499.94 annually.
- Possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate may be eligible for a one-time $1,000 hiring bonus.
REQUIREMENTS:

- A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university; and
- Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
- SPECIAL NOTE: Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire. State of Florida Educator’s Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of Temporary Certificate.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
