The Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Division of Drugs, Devices and Cosmetics, Compliance and Enforcement Unit is seeking a self-motivated individual interested in joining a dynamic team of inspectors responsible for inspecting and investigating the manufacturing, distributing, and sale of drugs, medical devices and cosmetics in the State of Florida. The individual assigned to this position will be responsible for enforcing Chapter 499, Florida Statutes, the Florida Drug and Cosmetic Act (the “Act”), the administrative rules promulgated under the Act, codified as Chapter 61N-1, Florida Administrative Code (the “Rules”), registration, inspection and investigative activities necessary to meet requirements specified in the Act and Rules. These activities include performing initial pre-permit inspections, routine inspections, investigations in response to complaints, virtual or desk inspections and investigations, and other similar activities.


This position is a highly responsible position that will be assigned a state vehicle, will be expected to work independently under the supervision of the Compliance & Enforcement Manager and Pharmaceutical Program Manager.  This position is headquartered in Margate, Florida (Broward County) and may have the option to work a flexible schedule.  A geographic area of primary responsibility will be assigned and daily travel will be required. Additionally, some overnight travel will be required.


Minimum Requirements:

  •   A Florida licensed pharmacist. (copy must be provided with application)
  •   A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a practicing pharmacist. (documents must be provided with application)
  •   The Florida pharmacist license must be in good standing.
  •   Valid Driver License.
  •   Must reside in Broward County or the immediate vicinity of Broward County Florida.
  •   Extensive writing skills.


Preferred Requirements But Not Required:

  • A Pharm.D. or an advanced degree in a  related field of applied health or chemical science (e.g., medicine, pharmacology, biochemistry).
  • A diverse pharmacy practice background, and/or investigative experience with a government agency directly related to state or federal drug laws.
  • Significant responsibility for regulatory compliance at a prescription drug manufacturer, wholesale distributor, hospital system, or chain pharmacy warehouse.
  • Fluency in Spanish, or any other language than English.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Inspects monitors and investigates persons and establishments subject to the Act, including applicants for permits issued under the Act and establishments permitted under the Act, for compliance with the Act and the Rules. Investigates violations of the Act, the Rules, and state and federal statutes, rules, regulations and other laws concerning drugs, devices and cosmetics.
  • Gathers and analyzes evidence, and prepares and submits technical and operational documents related to inspections and investigations, including inspections and investigation reports, complaints, notices of inspection results, and warning letters – all within specified time limits.
  • Serves as a statewide subject matter expert for the Act and the Rules. Provide consultation and technical assistance in matters relating to compliance with the Act, the Rules, and state and federal statutes, rules, regulations and other laws concerning drugs, devices, or cosmetics. Reviews product registrations under the Act and Rules as assigned.
  • Participates as assigned in training the DDC’s and other personnel concerning best inspection/investigative practices and procedures, and requirements of the Act, the Rules, and state and federal statutes, rules, regulations and other laws concerning drug, devices and cosmetics..
  • Assists in developing, and trains other department personnel concerning, the DDC’s operational tools, including equipment, hardware and software used in performing assigned duties.
  • Advises the Pharmaceutical Program Manager and the Chief of Compliance and Enforcement on policies, procedures and training.
  • Educates the regulated industry concerning compliance with the Act, the Rules, and state and federal statutes, rules, regulations and other laws concerning drugs, devices or cosmetics.
  • Advises, and interfaces and coordinates, with federal, state and local law enforcement and regulatory agencies and authorities, including, as assigned, interagency task forces.
  • Represents the DDC as recognized source of expertise and authority in conferences, meetings, and presentations involving issues of considerable importance.
  • Provides testimony at trials, hearings, depositions, and proceedings concerning matters within the scope of the described duties, including inspections, investigations, chain of custody, and records. May be required to provide testimony as a designated records custodian for purposes of authenticating department records.
  • As a Florida- licensed pharmacist, provides expert witness testimony at trials, hearings, depositions and proceedings concerning the practice of pharmacy in Florida.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, including providing assistance as needed in response to and recovery following natural or manmade disasters, or other emergencies


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, standards and terminology of pharmacy, pharmacy laws, and related manufacture and distribution industries.
  • Ability to evaluate pharmacy methods, procedures and services.
  • Knowledge of drug types, contents and properties.
  • Knowledge of Florida and federal laws and regulations for drugs, devices and cosmetics, including, without limitation, as regards to state and federal good manufacturing practices, supply chain integrity, and import/export of drugs, devices and cosmetics
  • Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, is essential.  .
  • Skills in using computer programs for the department, including Microsoft Office software required.
