Program Overview
The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program operates on the campus of Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee and at Sunland in Marianna under the auspices of The State of Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program (DDDP) is dedicated to empowering people with developmental disabilities charged with a felony crime to:
1. Acquire the skills and support that will prepare them for success in their future environments.
2. Acquire the skills needed to become competent to stand trial.
Position Summary
Supervise and direct the assigned Vocational Training Instructors including performance evaluations and reviews, disciplinary action in accordance with department standards, monitoring and approval of employee leave, and staff scheduling of adequate program coverage.
Ensure and support the safety, supervision, and security of residents.
Ensure and support the completion of individual vocational assessments, training objectives, written summaries, progress reports, time studies, and other vocational-related projects as assigned.
Prepare and/or review appropriate documentation of all unusual or significant events.
Attend meetings as assigned including in-service (Staff Development) and staff meetings.
Coordinate and chair staff meetings in accordance with Center policy.
Maintain a safe, secure, and clean vocational environment.
Review vocational programs as needed to ensure safe, secure, and effective training procedures and outcomes.
Initiate and submit work orders, supply requests, and other vocational-related requests to the area director.
The Work You Will Do
Pathways is a 34-bed all male forensic facility working with individuals with disabilities in a secure setting. These individuals have been adjudicated by the courts as incompetent to proceed to trial and have significant behavioral and psychiatric issues. Pathways provides rehabilitative, vocational, and daily living skills training to the individuals served which allows for a smooth transition back into a non-secure residential or community setting.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of behavior modification.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices used in the behavioral treatment of clients.
- Ability to assess clients' skills and needs.
- Ability to develop individual training plans and objectives for clients.
- Ability to prepare, implement and monitor individual behavior modification programs.
- Ability to keep records on clients' progress.
- Ability to supervise people.
- Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma and 2 years of experience in housekeeping or groundskeeping or college education (substitute at the rate of 30 semesters, 45 quarters, or 720 classroom hours for each year of the required experience) in educational/ technical training
- A valid driver’s license. License suspended or revoked for any reason, work permits (Business purpose/ Employment/Education only license) and some types of restricted license are not acceptable. Licenses that have “Corrective Lenses Restricted,” are acceptable, provided the driver wears the corrective lenses while operating the vehicle.

Background Screening Requirement
It is the policy of the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities that applicants for employment undergo Level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer.

Level 2 background screening shall include, but not be limited to, fingerprinting for Statewide criminal and juvenile records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and Federal criminal records checks through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and may include local criminal records checks through local law enforcement agencies.
