$34,760.00 - $38,235.86 Annually                       $1,336.92 - $1,470.61 Bi-weekly

Position Summary

This is a position under the Division of Operations created as a Health Information Specialist -housed in the Medical Records Department. Its primary purpose is to organize and maintain records, filing systems and inventories for Discharges. This is specialized clerical work which requires independent decision making responsibility.  

 

The Work You Will Do 

Responsible for ensuring medical records are created and maintained accurately in accordance with guidelines, policies, and procedures. Responsible for ensuring medical charts filing and thinning for Sunland are maintained in accordance with guidelines, both by using the filing system and table of contents while maintaining the highest standards of data integrity, confidentiality, and security.

 

Responsible for ensuring that while a resident is being discharged that the appropriate discharge paperwork is given to the transporting staff. Responsible for the breakdown of the chart in accordance with guidelines, policies, and procedures.

 

Responsible for the management of the off-campus medical appointment system for all residents including referral processing and assembling necessary documents.

 

Perform other related duties as required.

 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Associate’s degree in the medical records arena (Health Information, Information Technology, Medical Records, etc.) OR at least three (3) years of experience working in a medical records department, legal department or human services delivery system performing work that requires organizational skills, advanced technology skills, strong communication skills, and excellence in customer service. Highly motivated, self-starter with advanced computer skills. Experience in the areas above can substitute for required education.

 

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to maintain HIPAA compliance and regulations
  • Ability to meet and maintain minimum production requirements for speed and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of general office practices
  • Ability to manage a large volume of patient files/records requests ensuring accuracy and organization
  • Ability to pay attention to details
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to carry out instructions for medical records processing/organizing/thinning in chart and online.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

As a condition of employment, a person appointed to a position in the State Personnel System is required to participate in the Direct Deposit Program.  Rather than receiving a paper paycheck, your funds will be deposited directly into your account at your financial institution. This will be accomplished by Electronic Funds Transfer. Banks, savings and loan associations, and credit unions are eligible to accept such deposits. Retirement funds are also required to be in the Direct Deposit Program.

 

Background Screening Requirement

It is the policy of the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities that applicants for employment undergo Level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer.
