Program Overview
The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program operates on the campus of Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee and at Sunland in Marianna under the auspices of The State of Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program (DDDP) is dedicated to empowering persons with developmental disabilities charged with a felony crime to:
1. Acquire the skills and support that will prepare them for success in their future environments.
2. Acquire the skills needed to become competent to stand trial.
Position Summary
The incumbent assigned to this position is responsible for minor routine and preventive maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks:
Perform various utility functions such as installing, maintaining, and repairing sinks, valves, and other plumbing fixtures; replacing filters/cleaning HVAC and other mechanical systems; minor carpentry, cement, brickwork, painting; grounds cleanup; pressure washing; moving furniture/property; inspecting doors, locks, windows, etc. to minimize hazards; and assisting with special projects as needed.
Monitor and update work order systems daily, prioritizing work as appropriate. Report concerns or potential obstacles to supervisor timely.
Make rounds daily to ensure systems are working properly, identify potential safety issues related to maintenance or physical plant needs. Communicates concerns through data system and alerts staff as needed for safety.
Performs required monthly maintenance on DDDP/PW electrical and gas utility/golf carts to ensure that battery life is maximized, and vehicles are operating at optimal levels.
Secure/requisitions appropriate materials and supplies by processing request for purchase requisitions, managing supply and equipment inventories in a safe and secure manner following guidelines established for tool inventory and ensuring that appropriate tools and equipment are available to complete assignments.
Completes all the training required. Maintain MANDT certification as required. Maintain timesheet, ensuring accuracy and submitting timely in accordance with policy and procedure.
Perform other related duties as required.
Working hours: Monday through Friday 7:00AM- 3:30PM CST (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM) EST
Knowledge, skills, and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:
Requires multiple physical activities such as bending, pushing, pulling, stooping, and walking. Lifting to 50 pounds. Climbing ladders. Exposure to loud noises. Work in inclement weather. Ability to ambulate grounds. Must be able to use various saw and hand tools. Must be able to perform lock repair, glass cutting and carpentry work. Must occasionally work in close, dark areas. Must use a safety lift belt, glasses and gloves.
• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the skilled building trades or mechanical repair work.
• Knowledge of safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work.
• Skill in using tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work.
• Ability to perform a variety of skilled trades functions.
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Ability to install, maintain and repair electric motors, generators and other mechanical equipment.
• Ability to take accurate measurements.
• Ability to follow instructions.
The Work You Will Do
DDDP is a forensic facility working with individuals with disabilities in a secure setting. These individuals have been adjudicated by the courts as incompetent to proceed to trial and have significant behavioral and psychiatric issues. DDDP provides rehabilitative, vocational, and daily living skills training to the individuals served which allows for a smooth transition back into a non-secure residential or community setting.
Pathways is a 34-bed all male forensic facility working with individuals with disabilities in a secure setting. These individuals have been adjudicated by the courts as incompetent to proceed to trial and have significant behavioral and psychiatric issues. Pathways provides rehabilitative, vocational, and daily living skills training to the individuals served which allows for a smooth transition back into a non-secure residential or community setting.
Minimum Qualifications
• Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing or electrical or mechanical equipment; or
• Vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for experience.
• A valid driver’s license. License suspended or revoked for any reason, work permits (Business purpose/ Employment/Education only license) and some types of restricted license are not acceptable. Licenses that have “Corrective Lenses Restricted,” are acceptable, provided the driver wears the corrective lenses while operating the vehicle.

Background Screening Requirement
