Position Summary

The incumbent assigned to this position is assigned to the Executive Nursing Director and performs work assignments with focus to the infection control aspects of the health, safety, and well-being of residents of Sunland which is a 24/7 treatment and training facility for the Developmentally Disabled.  Based on the duties and essential functions of this position, incumbents will be required to spend work time performing duties which involves direct contact with residents. This position requires lifting, pulling, and squatting

 

The Work You Will Do 

Monitoring and Discipline:

Maintains and electronic data collection system of all common illnesses and communicable disease which will include evaluation, investigation, treatment, education and reporting of endemic levels. Provide monthly data reports using standards established by the Executive Nursing Director. Evaluates infection control program efficiency and effectiveness with the Nurse Leadership Team. Implements changes as necessary through coordination and monitoring of electronic data collection system. Chairs Quarterly Infection Control meeting, Monthly Clinical Decubitus/Skin meeting, Emergency Infection Control Meetings (as needed) and other committees as assigned. Performs monthly environmental inspections to identify infection control issues, communicate findings to the END/POA/RSS and repeat inspection to verify corrective action is completed as stated by corrective action plans. Ensures personal protective equipment is present, functional, and available for all areas. Reviews lab results for routine and acute illnesses. Conduct infection control risk assessments. Notify local, state, and federal authorities about reportable diseases as required.

 

Professional Growth and Communication:

Participates in the development of standard/policies related to infection control to include but not limited to compliance with OSHA regulations, Center for Disease Control recommendations, Communicable Disease Control Program, Employee Health, Bloodborne Pathogens. Serves as a consultant to the hospital, health department, internal department personnel, professional staff committees and individual employees for infection control needs. Provides leadership in the development of the health education programs related to infection control and health related topics. Provides new employee education, on-going staff education and Resident education which may include but is not limited to AIDS/HIV Update courses, OSHA Update courses. Educate staff and Residents on risks, prevention and control of infection, disease specific care with appropriate precautions.

 

Establishes and coordinates Employee Health Clinics on specific days and times to encourage compliance and produce positive outcomes. This includes administering PPDs on hire and annually. Ensure completion and documentation of chest x-rays and consultation with MD for any positive readings. Notifies employees of availability of vaccines and the respective administration schedules.

 

Serves on and participates in facility committees, surveys, quality management. Communicates with other disciplines in determining needs of Residents. Participates in the development and revision of Nursing procedures. Attends required training and continuing education to maintain and improve professional requirements. 

 

Provide nursing coverage for the Nursing Department in times of need as directed by the Executive Nursing Director. Other duties assigned. Other duties assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27.

 

Preferred At least two years working experience in quality assurance nursing collecting, analyzing, and sharing data and infection control.

 

Preferred: At least four years of nursing experience. Experience working with intellectually disabled, developmentally disabled, mentally ill, and autistic individuals. Knowledge of The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid

 

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of the theories and concepts of preventive health care.
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques in specialized areas.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of community resources and organizations.
  • Knowledge of the principles of adult learning.
  • Skill in the application of nursing theory in specialized areas.
  • Ability to teach professional nurses.
  • Ability to assess and prioritize service and personnel needs in a specialized area.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to coordinate and evaluate a specialized or educational nursing program.

Background Screening Requirement
