Position Summary

The incumbent assigned to this position is responsible for the professional nursing care, health, safety, and well-being of residents of Sunland Center. 

 

The Work You Will Do 

Performs direct nursing care functions as ordered/prescribed and in compliance with applicable policies. Ensures all treatments ordered by providers are carried out as prescribed. Serves as charge person in management for medical/psychiatric emergencies (i.e., Oxygen, Suction. CPR, Splints, Documentation of event, etc.) pending the arrival of the attending physician/EMS. Assesses and documents assessment of all resident complaints, reported or recognized changes in condition.  Ensures appropriate referrals to providers for residents requiring a higher level of care. Completes nursing portion of incident reports.

 

Timely and accurately completes administration of medications and treatments as ordered by the provider, adhering to established Policy/Procedure. Documents administration on Medication Administration Record. Observes for effectiveness and adverse reactions of medications. Reports medication variances and ensures appropriate evaluation and follow up of resident. Performs quality control protocols on medications received from pharmacy against physician orders to ensure accuracy. Reviews MARS when updated monthly for accuracy, corrects any discrepancies prior to administration of medication to residents.

 

Writes/composes documents in compliance with professional nursing standards, Sunland nursing policies and procedures and integrated services to provide a base of information to ensure quality resident care.  Participates in appropriate audit/survey processes. Ensures/gives/receives reports of incidents, illness, and other relevant data pertaining to resident care with appropriate documentation, at beginning and end of shift to ensure continuity of resident care. Makes notations in the patient charts and communicates orders for diet, laboratory, x-ray studies and other medical treatments. Completes Active Treatment Plans, Support Plans, as assigned and within required time frames. For the assigned caseload monitors and tracks ordering and completion of required lab or other diagnostic test and ensures test are rescheduled when refused or missed, completion of ordered consults. Completes required assessments such as DISCUS, MOSES, Fall risk, BRADEN Scale. Utilizes Professional Nursing Standards and applicable Sunland Operating Procedures in the application of the nursing process including assessing residents needs/issues and environment; planning and coordinating care with residents’ input; implementing Physician’s orders and treatments; signing off physician orders, evaluating nursing care and resident outcome; Maintain a safe environment for the residents

 

Maintains the security/safety and health of residents in accordance with APD/Unit protocols. Provides in-service training to staff in areas of identified risk for individual residents.

 

 Ensures medical areas are kept neat, clean, and orderly.  Ensures that all medical supplies are checked weekly for expiration; Immunizations and Insulin’s are discarded upon date of expiration; Ensures that Sunland Infection Control Policies/Procedures are followed as prescribed to manage infection and maintain the safety and wellbeing of residents and staff.

 

Performs other related duties as directed or required

 

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27.

Background Screening Requirement
