Position Overview and Responsibilities:

Sebastian Inlet State Park is looking for a self-motivated park service professional to fill a Maintenance Mechanic position, providing maintenance, protection, and administration.

 

The applicant must be able to work independently and have the ability to perform a variety of skilled trade functions using assorted equipment and tools. The applicant must be able to work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. 

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected at all times to be aware of and abide by the Department's Standards of Conduct, as well as any and all departmental and/or work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures, and/or general orders applicable to performing the duties of this position

 

MAINTENANCE -Identify needs through daily checks. Maintain maintenance schedules and work lists. Oversee and assist with the maintenance and repair of facilities, buildings, roads, bridges, trails, water systems, vehicles, equipment, etc. Ensure repairs are made. Maintain Park grounds. Follow all labels instructions on all chemicals etc. Clean and service all tools, vehicles and equipment. Notify a supervisor when a piece of equipment needs repair, service or is missing. Construct, maintain and repair buildings, fences, trails, service roads, fire lanes, boardwalk, campsites, picnic area, picnic tables and all other park facilities and/or park equipment. Operate equipment and vehicles, such as power tools, chain saws, tractors, dump trucks, mowers and ATV' s. Ensure proper operation of vehicles, equipment and tools. Ensure proper fluid levels are checked for equipment.

 

ADMINISTRATION -Track Park inventories, make supply orders. Prepare and maintain Purchasing Card and Field Purchase Orders. Complete reports and assignments. Maintain tools and equipment inventories. Assist in maintaining property and sensitive items inventory.

 

VISITOR SERVICES - Greet visitors and give out information.

 

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT -Participate in park's exotic removal program. Participates in the park's erosion control program. Assist in restoration projects. Maintain Park fire lanes and fence lines. Complete all resource management related reports.

 

PROTECTION -Lock and secure all facilities. Secure all tools vehicles and equipment, Enforce park rules, regulations and laws. Document all incidents on CMI's report incidents to supervisor. Provide emergency assistance when necessary.

 

Perform other duties as required.

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

  • Skills and ability to complete administrative reports and handle correspondence.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to enforce rules, regulations and laws.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the skilled building trades and mechanical repair work.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to install, maintain and repair electric motors, generators and other mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to make accurate measurements.
  • Skill and ability in gardening, landscape and ground maintenance.
  • Skill and ability to handle money, make change and simple mathematical functions.
  • Ability to use basic office equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical labor with minimal supervision.
  • Skill and ability to handle plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and maintenance problems.
  • Ability to operate and maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to determine work priorities and conduct follow up inspections.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver’s license.  

 

Pay:

$2,896.67 monthly/ $34,760.00 annually
