DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES: Duties to include but not limited to: Conduct field and lab work related to fisheries monitoring and research both inshore and offshore. Collect, identify, and enumerate fishes for a statewide fisheries monitoring program. Adhere to detailed water quality and fisheries collection standards. Operate boats and vehicles to accomplish objectives. This position requires extensive fieldwork and the ability to pull and lift heavy nets. Manage collected data following defined procedures and enter, proof, and correct data using personal computers and database software.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the biological sciences. Valid driver's license.

**Preference may be given to candidates that have a demonstrated knowledge of fish biology, sampling methods, and data collection.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to work for extended duration (up to 10 consecutive days) at sea aboard 40-100 ft research vessels, including weekends and holidays as needed.


Knowledge, Skill(s), and Abilities:  Knowledge of juvenile and adult fish and/or invertebrate identification, of methods and gear used for collection of fisheries samples, of personal computers and database software. Ability to perform strenuous field duties in adverse conditions; to safely operate and trailer vessels less than 26' in length.; ability to think logically and apply problem-solving techniques; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; maintain a valid driver’s license.
