The responsibilities of this position include providing guidance and support to Judges on substantive and procedural legal matters concerning the division's cases, with a focus on felony mental health cases. The individual in this role will act as a liaison between the Judiciary and various courts, as well as entities such as the Clerk of Courts, community-based service groups, parties, and their attorneys. This role aims to enhance access to the court for both court agency partners and litigants.
The Case Manager’s role encompasses several key responsibilities and duties, including providing case-related information to court personnel, coordinating cases, and facilitating referrals to community-based services. Additionally, the position involves managing and preparing cases for court hearings, briefing judges, attending hearings, maintaining filing systems, scheduling hearings, addressing the court, and performing related clerical functions. The Case Manager operates under the general guidance of a Program Coordinator, and contribute to the development of work methods and procedures.
This position is eligible for a hybrid remote work/onsite schedule after a 90-day period, as outlined by existing Circuit policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Provides direct consultation to judges for cases involving mentally ill or intellectually disabled defendants.
- Coordinates residential, psychiatric, and substance abuse treatments for criminal defendants.
- Creates conditional release plans and necessary orders for judicial approval.
- Manages a caseload of defendants under court supervision, ensuring compliance with conditions of release.
- Attends court sessions, documenting proceedings in the database.
- Screens and schedules cases, notifying involved parties of dates and times.
- Serves as a liaison between the court, attorneys, relevant agencies, and treatment providers.
- Assists the court in scheduling outpatient evaluation appointments.
- Delivers transport orders to the Department of Corrections Transportation Unit.
- Uploads relevant documentation to the Mental Health Administrator's Office database and maintains case notes.
- Performs additional duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice or related field. Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis.
- Two (2) years of related work experience. Additional relevant education may substitute for the recommended experience on a year for-year basis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
- Proficient understanding of the criminal justice system.
- Familiarity with court function and jurisdiction.
- Knowledge of community/private mental health and substance abuse treatment providers.
- Understanding of available residential facilities for forensic clients.
- Competence in using computer software (Outlook, Microsoft Office) and office equipment (scanner, copier).
- Aptitude to comprehend and adhere to oral and written instructions.
- Ability to make informed work decisions aligning with laws, regulations, and departmental policies.
- Skill in maintaining accurate case documentation and preparing written materials.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, for expressing ideas clearly and succinctly.
- Capacity to build and sustain productive relationships with the judiciary, colleagues, attorneys, court service partners, and the public.
- Preferred bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish.

Physical Demands:
- Work involves a significant amount of standing, sitting, talking, listening, balancing, stooping, and reaching with hands and arms; must be able to transfer up to 10 pounds.
