DESCRIPTION:

This is a professional position responsible for planning, implementing evaluating and delivering health promotion and health education STD/HIV/AIDS and performing outreach activities to target Men who have Sex with Men community. This position is under the direct supervision of the Health Education Supervisor.

Develops and presents heath education and promotion programs 1-Plan, develops implements, evaluates and delivers comprehensive STD/HIV/AIDS education and prevention programs for target at risk groups in Miami Dade County, according to approved lesson plan.2-Provides behavioral modification interventions using science based interventions included in the Replicating Effective Programs (REP) and the Diffusion of Effective Behavioral Interventions (DEBI) projects for each target group to promote healthy lifestyles in the areas of STD/HIV/AIDS prevention. Recruits high risk gay and non-gay identified men who have sex with men (MSM) and their sex partners for individual or group interventions. 3- Conducts prevention for high risk negative priority populations (MSM) based on local priorities. Delivers STD/HIV, nPEP & PrEP messages to high-risk clients. 4- Participate in outreach efforts in communities at the highest risk for HIV/ providing educational information and encouraging STD testing. 5- Maintenance and development educational materials and condoms distribution for MSM community. 5-Assists with linking newly diagnosed clients to care or re-engaging HIV infected clients who have fallen out of care as needed.

Manages and leads community mobilizing efforts through The Miami Collaborative: An MSM Work group, by working and partnering with community based organizations, local businesses, AIDS service organizations and gatekeepers to develop, implement, evaluate and expand local HIV/AIDS Initiatives. Attends community meetings and serves on advisory committees as requested by the Health Education Supervisor.

Provides assistance to the Test Miami/Take Control, High Impact Prevention and other activities developed by the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade STD/HIV Prevention and Control Program. Identify high-risk venues and community events where high-risk gay men/MSM live, work and socialize. Identify target population in geographic areas, venues and peak times in the targeted areas that are at high risk for transmission of HIV, STls and viral hepatitis.

Entering, transcribing, recording, storing or maintaining information in either written form or by electronic recording. Collect data from activities and/or interventions and reported in the CHO assigned data collection system on a monthly basis. Evaluate effectiveness of program on a quarterly basis. Process and submit program reports by the 3rd of the month.

Maintain databases, mailing list, telephone networks and other information to facilitate the functioning of health education programs. Maintain an up to date resource directory of agencies within the community; Serve as a STD/HIV/AIDS service referral source for people in the community. Planning, developing and implementing specific strategies to reach the target list of organizations, agencies, coalitions, institutions to ensure broad coverage of target areas.

The incumbent of the position will work with a diverse population and will be required to deliver services in English/Spanish.

Assist in additional office related activities and duties assigned. Participation in the Florida Department of Health in Miami Dade activities including Test Miami and National Days of Observance.

 

EXAMPLES OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.
  • Ability to conduct fact-finding interviews
  • Ability to conduct health investigations.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of experience working with the LGBT community and providing prevention education.

  • Valid Florida driver's license and access to an automobile to conduct work related assignments
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Incumbent is required to work during non-traditional hours when office activities are scheduled.
