Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position assists the Perinatal HIV Coordinator in the performance of disease control and prevention activities pertaining to pregnant women, women of childbearing ages and HIV infected or exposed newborns.  Activities reflect knowledge and application of the coordination of healthcare and assessment principles.  The incumbent will need to work effectively with medical providers and HIV infected patients. Incumbent will follow Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and information security regulations to ensure confidentiality and privacy of the client health information. Incumbent will establish good rapport with staff and clients and provide positive customer service. Incumbent is expected to adhere to established Health Department policies and procedures.

 

Record searches and conducts field investigations to locate and refer clients.

Communicates with HIV infected pregnant women through face-to-face or phone contact during pregnancy and after the delivery of the newborn for the purposes of: (1) educating the women regarding their infection and appropriate medical care/social service (2) assessing woman and newborns’ need for appropriate referrals (3) coordinating appointments (4) instructing/ensuring proper HIV treatment of women and newborns.

 

Prepares and maintains timely and accurate referrals, records and reports manually and electronically. 

 

Utilizes PRISM, HIV SCAN, CERNER and ACCESS to input and record search in an accurate and timely manner.

 

Receives information of an HIV infected pregnancy or exposed/infected infant on the High-Risk Pregnancy Notification, Newborn Exposure Notification, Adult HIV/AIDS Confidential Case Report and Pediatric HIV Confidential Report forms from medical providers and HIV/AIDS Surveillance by fax or phone. 

 

Consults with medical providers to: (1) stimulate case notification (2) obtain/provide information, diagnostic determination, treatment and referral of pregnant women and newborns.

 

Conduct educational sessions, provide support, resources and information to OB/GYNs and providers treating pregnant women, women of childbearing ages and pediatricians on issues of Perinatal HIV/AIDS.

 

Assists Perinatal HIV Coordinator in the completion of monthly statistical data, maintenance of logs and files. 

Travel in relation to above duties. 

 

Performs all other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others in a stressful environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and client confidentiality requirements.

 

 

Qualifications:

Minimum

Valid driver's license, access to a private automobile to travel for work related assignments, experience delivering presentations.

Preferred -

Incumbent in this position is preferred to be bilingual in English and Spanish.
