Your Specific Responsibilities:

Incumbent gives the Physician and/or RN assistance as needed, including facilitating clients’ records and other materials when requested for the Family Planning and Colposcopy clinics.  Prepares for clinic services by providing special instructions to clients, administering urine tests, taking and recording client’s weight and blood pressure and numerically recording each client’s arrival prior to provider’s examination.  Prepares treatment rooms for patient examination/procedure, keeping the rooms neat and clean, with necessary supplies and re-stocks at the end of each clinic session in preparation for the next day. Explains treatment procedures, medications or providers' instructions to patients. Cleans and sterilizes instruments and disposes of contaminated supplies.

 

Greets clients, provides information, answers questions and routes clients as per procedures.  Schedules/reschedules and confirms client appointments. Answers telephone/transfers calls. Calls clients to remind of appointments and reschedules no shows.

 

Registers clients in HMS.  Interviews, verifies and records patient demographics and determines eligibility for insurance benefits or Medicaid. Follows client check in processes, completes forms and copies/scans required client documents. Reviews super bill to ensure information is entered accurately in the HMS record-of service section. Receives and records payments, provides correct change, and issues receipt if necessary.

 

Protects the security of medical records/EHR to ensure that confidentiality is maintained. Ensures that the client’s medical record/EHR is completed following policy and established procedures. Utilizes approved forms/screens. Scans and files registration and clinical documents. Processes release of information (ROI) request ensuring that valid authorization has been given by the client or the client’s legal representative; releases information to persons and agencies according to policy and regulations. Prepares and witnesses consent forms as appropriate.

 

Communicates with APRN/RN on what specific supplies are needed, conducts inventories on medical supplies and checks expiration dates and orders supplies as necessary.  Generates computer database and completes reports and other statistical data.

 

Assists in clinical and clerical duties for prenatal and family planning clinic and provides coverage at other clinic sites as needed. Prioritizes work assignments. Participates in workgroups and meetings and attends/completes required trainings. Reviews/responds to email daily and completes on time all administrative requirements such as EAR’s, timesheets, FLHAN response, reports, etc. Attends a minimum of two health fairs/community outreach activities per year.

 

Performs all other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge and proficiency with computers and various computer programs
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology and of basic computer software

  • Skill in taking blood pressure readings
  • Ability to deal with the public in a tactful, courteous and effective manner
  • Ability to interview patients and obtain complete medical history

  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to organize and maintain filing systems

Qualifications:

Experience as a medical assistant.

Preferred

The incumbent in this position is preferred to be bilingual in English and Spanish or English and Creole.
