Your Specific Responsibilities:

Incumbent is based in the Seals on Wheels Mobile Dental Unit and the Penalver Dental Clinic under the direct supervision of the lead Dentist of the site. This is a professional expanded duties Dental Assisting position. The primary functions are to assist the Dentists and provide patient care.  Specific duties include: prepares patient, sterilizes and disinfects instruments, set up instrument trays and operatory rooms, prepare materials and assist dentist during dental procedures.  Exposes dental diagnostic digital x-rays.  Provides postoperative instructions prescribed by the dentist.  Applies protective coating of fluoride varnish to teeth.  Places dental sealants.  Performs Dental prophylaxis.  Records treatment information in patient records.  Instructs patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.  Inputs data into computer systems.  Have patients or legal guardians sign necessary consent forms.

 

Provides dental treatment services for all eligible patients in accordance with all Federal State laws and within the guidelines established by the State Health office and the Dental Administrative Offices.  Provides for the proper daily operation of the dental clinic. This includes: monitors and maintains inventory dental supplies in operatories, orders supplies, coordinates outreach activities with volunteers, staff, and the community. Maintains dental equipment.  Keeps track of expiration dates of supplies, and medications.

 

Performs other duties as assigned. These duties may include front desk reception/greeting, appointments, registration, financial and Medicaid eligibility, cashiering duties, billing, filing, registering clients in HMS and in EHR, scanning documents, operating office machines such as: computer, credit card machine and calculator. Participates in workgroups and meetings and attends/completes required trainings. Reviews/responds to email daily and completes on time all administrative requirements such as EAR’s, timesheets, ServFL response, reports, etc. Participates in disaster-related duties as directed.

 

Cleans instrument and supply cabinets and carts and maintains sterile supplies.

 

Participates in health fairs annually.

 

Performs other related duties as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of digital x-ray system and application via computer.
  • Knowledge of placement of dental sealants.
  • Ability to work with children.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and keep a healthy working environment with co-workers and clients.
  • Knowledge of dental software systems.
  • Knowledge of proper sterilization techniques.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of front desk duties.
  • Knowledge of Dental Software.
