PD11 Overview: The Public Defender is an elected official who has a constitutional duty to provide legal representation to persons in jeopardy of losing their liberty who cannot afford to hire a private attorney. 

Position Type: Full time 

Job Description: The legal assistant is expected to support attorneys. The work may include gathering, requesting and reviewing records, data entry and retrieval, generating letters/legal documents, appointment scheduling, and intake interviews.  

Requirements/Qualifications: 

  •    Minimum of an Associate Degree 
  •    Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry 
  •    Excellent verbal, written, computer, communication and interpersonal skills
  •    English/Spanish and/or English/Creole preferred

Salary: Starting salary is $29,000 plus a full-range of state benefits including health insurance, retirement plan, paid vacation, sick leave and holidays, and free tuition for college courses on a space-available basis.
