PD11 Overview: The Public Defender is an elected official who has a constitutional duty to provide legal representation to persons in jeopardy of losing their liberty who cannot afford to hire a private attorney.

Position Type: Full time, entry-level.  Weekend and holiday part-time also available.       

Job Description: The paralegal assists with client intake interviews in correctional facilities and hospitals, requesting and processing records, records' review, preparing court calendars, files, documentation and follow through. 

Requirements/Qualifications:
• Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word 
• Excellent verbal, written, computer, communication and interpersonal skills
• English/Spanish and/or English/Creole required 
• Reliable vehicle, as travel is required in and around the Miami area
• Ability to work weekends and holidays

Salary: Salary is $28,000 - $31,000 depending on education, plus a full-range of state benefits including health insurance, retirement plan, paid vacation, sick leave and holidays, and free tuition for college courses on a space-available basis for full-time employees. Part-time does not have benefits.
