SPECIAL NOTES:

Two (2) years of experience as a legislative aide or working in public relations, external affairs, or other elected official is preferred.

Salary Range: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00.

 

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of various methods of data collection and analysis, and the ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data and feedback to develop alternative recommendations; knowledge of basic public and media relations principles; ability to coordinate events; ability to determine work priorities, delegate work and ensure proper completion of work assignments; ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships with internal staff and external partners; ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures; ability to conduct fact-finding research, solve problems and make decisions; and ability to work within a team and independently. Skill in use of personal computer and laptop. Skill in use of MS Word and Excel.

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position serves as a high-profile representative of the Department of Financial Services within the Office of External Affairs and has been designated by the Chief Financial Officer as managerial in accordance with Section 110.205 (2)(n)1.a. Florida Statutes. Provides guidance to management, establishes priorities and objectives and formulates policy concerning the nature and scope of the services provided to the public through consumer outreach programs.

 

Conducts door-to-door outreach to engage constituents on behalf of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), providing consumer education about available programs, including hurricane preparedness/recovery and insurance information.

 

Conducts consumer information/awareness programs in the region as directed to meet the mission of the agency in consumer education. Supports Consumer Outreach Programs to keep consumers better informed and educated on insurance and financial matters and the responsibilities of the Department of Financial Services.

 

Serves as a direct point of contact for community members and constituents answering questions, addressing concerns, and assisting with access to DFS resources.

 

Assists in identifying areas of potential improvement in by participating in special projects and programs devised to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of regional office capabilities as directed.

 

Develops public events and forums as required and requested by agency representatives. Makes recommendations regarding event and meeting opportunities. Serves as liaison with other DFS regional office and divisions regarding public education requests and speaker assignments. Completes advance work and provides professional support before, during and after the event.

 

Attends and participates (as needed) in community events.

 

Maintains supply of public education material to meet outreach needs. Provides assistance to agency officials and their staff to promote the most effective means of public information and consumer awareness to meet their needs in the region.

 

Prepares reports recording effectiveness of the region's outreach program. Measures effectiveness of the program against desired objectives.

 

Maintains databases of relevant contact information and logs of consumer support provided.

Serves as a member of the DFS disaster response team and in that capacity may be required, on very short notice, to perform duties in support of disaster relief efforts, including staffing insurance villages or disaster recovery centers.  

 

Must be available early mornings, evenings and weekends to preform outreach programs, as needed.

 

Employee will cover a district in Florida, which could include up to seven counties. The employee must be willing to travel around his/her district on any given day.  

 

Performs other related duties and responsibilities as directed.
